John Franklin Candy was born on 31 October 1950, in Newmarket, Ontario, Canada. He became one of the most prominent Canadian actors and comedians, featuring in such films as “Spaceballs” (1987) as Barf, then asDel Griffith in the film “Planes, Trains & Automobiles” then and as Buck Russell in the film “Uncle Buck” both in 1989), among many other projects.
John passed away on 4 March 1994 when Chris was 11 years old.
John was the son of Sidney James Candy and his wife, Evangeline. Raised in a working-class Catholic household, his father passed away at 35 years old from complications of heart disease. At the time, John was only five years old.
He went to Neil McNeil Catholic High School, after which he enrolled at Centennial College to study journalism. However, he transferred to McMaster University, where he started his acting career. Before he considered acting as a profession, John wanted to become a professional football player, but a knee injury prevented him from turning professional.
