American actress Anne Elizabeth ‘Annabeth’ Gish was born under the star sign of Pisces on 13 March 1971, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, to Robert and Judy Gish. Judy worked as an elementary school teacher. and Robert at the University of Northern Iowa as an English professor, so at two years of age, she moved with her family to Cedar Falls, Iowa where she was raised alongside her brother Tim and her sister Robin.

She attended Cedar Falls, Iowa’s Northern University High School, from where she matriculated in 1989. She then went on to study Drama, Women’s Studies, and Film Studies  at Duke University, where she was a part of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She earned her BA degree in English in July 1993.

Career

Her debut starring role was in the 1985 teenage film “Desert Bloom,”. Two years later, she starred opposite Jon Cryer in “Hiding Out.” In 1988 she played Julia Roberts’ character’s sister Kat in “Mystic Pizza.” The following year she had a major role as rape victim Lyn McKenna, in the television film “When He’s Not a Stranger.” That same year, she starred in “Shag,” a comedy co-starring Phoebe Cates, Scott Coffey and Jeff Yagher.

She played Rhett Butler’s second wife, Anne Hampton in “Scarlett,” a 1994 mini-series. That year also brought forth “Wyatt Earp”, Annabeth playing Urilla Sutherland who is Wyatt’s childhood love – the pair eventually marry; the film starred Kevin Costner in the titular role. In 1995 she played Julie Nixon in Oliver Stone’s “Nixon”, then appeared as Tracey in the following year’s “Beautiful Girls.” She next starred opposite Shaquille O’Neal as Susan Sparks in 1997’s “Steel,” the film adaptation of DC Comics’ superhero, and the same year starred as Euphemia Ashby in “True Women,” a television movie co-starring Angelina Jolie and Dana Delany, and as Trish, a head shop owner in 1998’s “SLC Punk!”

Annabeth joined “The X-Files” cast in 2001 as Special Agent Monica Reyes, following David Duchovny announcing his leaving the show after playing FBI Agent Fox Mulder in the show’s seventh season, written out of the show by being abducted by aliens. While the show was in its eighth and ninth season, actor Robert Patrick played FBI Special Agent John Doggett. After lead actress Gillian Anderson, who played FBI Special Agent Dana Scully left the show in 2002 to pursue an on-stage acting career, viewers thought that Robert and Annabeth would take over as the main leads in the series. Althea Jarry of the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Department in “Sons of Anarchy”, and a few months later, Fox announced that Annabeth would be returning as Monica Reyes in “The X-Files” in the revival’s sixth episode, tenth season as well as the eleventh season. When Annabeth was younger and began finding a passion for acting, she wrote Lillian a letter, asking for advice. Lillian replied, ‘There’s too much talent and not enough work in the movies!’ Even though she tried to discourage Annabeth from pursuing a career in film, Annabeth chose not to follow her advice.

She is very interested in charity work, and is involved with CARE International, One Million Bones, and Students Rebuild – in April 2012, she filmed a short video for both. Annabeth has also been appointed to the board of The Unusual Suspects Theater Company, a non-profit organization.

In December 2001, she began dating stuntman Wade Allen – they met while working on the set of “The X-Files”. They married on 11 October 2003 and have two children together, Cash Alexander Allen born on 12 January 2007, and Enzo Edward Allen on 25 October 2008. The family resides in Los Angeles.
