Early life, family, educational background

American writer, producer, actor and comedian Anders Christian Holm was born on 29 May 198,1 in Evanston, Illinois, USA, making him a Gemini. He has two older brothers, Olen born in 1975, and Erik in 1976; they’re of Danish descent. He attended Evanston Township High School from where he matriculated, before he studied toward a bachelor’s degree in History which he earned in 2003 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While studying at university, he joined their swim team. Anders’ wife, Emma, was born on 17 January 1982 in Evanston, Illinois, USA, making her a Capricorn. Like her husband, Emma also attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications and Journalism. After graduating they moved to Los Angeles, so that Anders could work on his career, and Emma became involved with non-profit organizations. From early to mid-July, she worked at University Gaston Berger de Saint-Louis as a teacher on English comprehension courses. She then went to work for ID Media as an assistant account executive. From 2006 to 2008, she studied at the University of California to earn a Master of Arts degree majoring in African Studies – particularly in History. In September 2008, she began working for Venture Strategies Innovations (VSI), starting out as a communications manager and communications specialist, then in May 2013 earned promotion to the position of communications director.

When she left that job, she went to work for the American Jewish World Service (AJWS) which is a human rights and international development organization, staying there for over five years. She was a director at a non-profit organization from February 2017 to August 2018; she supported and raised funds for human rights advocacy and grant-making in Southern California. Anders’ acting debut was in 2006 as Bruce Romaine in ten episodes of “Crossbows & Mustaches,” he also worked on the show as a co-creator, executive producer, and writer from 2006 to 2008. Also in 2008, he appeared in three episodes of “The Dude’s House,” five episodes of “5th Year,” and played Limahl Spellswell in the television movie, “420 Special: Attack of the Show! From Jamaica.”

In 2011, he co-created the sitcom television series “Workaholics”, along with Adam, Blake, Kyle, Connor Pritchard, and Dominic Russo. He wrote, executively produced and acted in the series until 2017 portraying Anders ‘Ders’ Holmvik, Adam plays Adam DeMamp, Blake plays Blake Henderson, Erik Griffin portrays Montez Walker, Jillian Bell plays Jillian Belk, and Maribeth Monroe plays Alice Murphy. The series follows Anders, Adam, and Blake – three dropouts who are also friends, housemates, and co-workers. In 2019, he played Paul Jackson in the unaired pilot of “Mixed-ish,” and portrayed Bryan Pigslinger in an episode of the Netflix sitcom “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” entitled “Sliding Van Doors.” The series stars Ellie Kemper as the titular character Kimberly ‘Kimmy’ Cougar Schmidt, Tituss Burgess as her roommate Titus Andromedon, Jane Krakowski as Jacqueline White, and Carol Kane as Kimmy and Titus’ landlady, Lillian Kaushtupper. The next year, Anders voiced Fat Cat, John ‘Jonesy’ Jones in an episode of the dark sketch comedy “Robot Chicken” entitled “Ghandi Mulholland in: Plastic Doesn’t Get Cancer.” In 2022, he played Jack in nine episodes of the Netflix original series “Inventing Anna”, which was created and produced by Shonda Rhimes and starred “Ozark”’s Julia Garner as the title character, fake German heiress Anna Sorokin. Sebastian is starring as himself, as the film is about his life and personal relationship with his father, Salvo Maniscalco, who is being portrayed by Robert De Niro. Personal life

Emma is an activist involved in human rights, poverty alleviation, and global health. According to his interview with Harper’s Bazar, Anders met Emma when they were 12 and went to the same summer camp. That was not the last they saw of each other, as they also attended high school together, and when they bumped into each other at cosmic bowling, Anders knew he was in love with her. When reminiscing about that time, he shared, ‘She was wearing these little white shorts… then I stalked her for a few months, and it turned out that she’s a totally respectable, super smart human with a giant brain and not just a pair of white shorts.’

However, they didn’t date until they were in university. Anders knew she was the one, so in 2009, he asked her out and she accepted. When proposing, both of their closest family members were there to witness the special moment. In September 2011, he married Emma in a private ceremony located at Bluestem Farm in Illinois – their guest list was filled with their family and friends. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, he spoke about how he and Emma make their marriage a success, ‘She’s awesome. I mean, you can only make it work if the other person is willing to make it work, and I’m lucky enough to have somebody like that.’

On 19 December 2013, she gave birth to their first child, a son who they refer to as ‘Little Anders’ because they don’t want to share his real name. Although they keep their son out of the public’s view, on 6 January 2014, Anders shared a video of his son on his Instagram page. At some point in 2018, Emma gave birth to their second child who is also a boy. The only knowledge that the public has of his existence is from Anders’ 2020 People interview in which he said that his two-year-old will be, ‘… a cool young man someday.’ He also advised new mom and co-star, Anne Hathaway to sleep train her baby as soon as possible.

The Holms family purchased a Silver Lake mansion in 2013 for $2.1 million – in September 2020, they listed the property, and now live in South Pasadena in a Mediterranean-styled house that they bought for $3.5 million; the home spans over 3800 square feet.
