Who is Sin Cara?

Sin Cara is a professional Mexican wrestler, known for using variety of face masks and various ring names over the course of his career. He has fought for several wrestling promotions, including Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre, World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE), and Puerto Rican and Japanese wrestling promotions, among many others.

His ring name Sin Cara means Faceless or Without Face in Spanish. He’s suffered several injuries during his career, including a knee injury which needed surgery and recovery period that forced him away from the ring for more than 10 months.

However, he is still active as a professional wrestler and is currently using the ring name Mistico, while the name Sin Cara has been taken over by Jose Jorge Arriaga. The two even feuded while both fought for WWE. He has NOW returned to the Consejo Munidal de Lucha Libre promotion.

Born Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde in Mexico City, on 22 December 1982 under the Capricorn zodiac sign, he’s the son of Miguel Urive, a professional wrestler known under the ring name Dr. Karonte, and has four brothers, who are also all professional wrestlers.

Influenced by his father, and AN uncle also a professional wrestler, Sin Cara was trained to become a wrestler from a young age. Unfortunately, there is no information about his educational background, but as he became interested in wrestling early, he launched his professional career at just 15 years old.

Career Beginnings and Rise to Fame

He assumed the ring name Dr. Karonte Jr in 1998, when he made his debut. Two years later, he started wrestling under the name Astro Boy, in honor of his older brother, who sadly died a few months earlier and was the original Astro Boy. After a while, he tag-teamed with the second brother of the Urive family, who assumed the name Astro Boy II.

As Komachi, he fought in Japan for Michinoku Pro Wrestling, however, in 2004 he returned to Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) as Mistico, defeating a number of other popular wrestlers, including Ultimo Guerrero, and turned into a wrestling star in 2006, then in 2007 he won the CMLL World Welterweight Championship after defeating Mephisto.

He continued to dominate the promotion in the next few years, and though he was in talks with several other promotions, he was unable to sign a contract with WWE and Non-Stop Wrestling due to his commitments with CMLL. In 2009 he won the Festival Mundial de Lucha Libre, after defeating several wrestlers including El Sagrado, El Terrible, El Texano Jr, Naito, Hijo del Fantasma, and others.

The same year he debuted for New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) and later that year became the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion, after he defeated Tiger Mask.

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE)

He eventually penned a contract with the most popular wrestling promotion in the world in 2011,  which was when he assumed the name, Sin Cara. His debut came on 25 March against Primo, and his successful debut announced a rather successful stint in WWE, where he remained until March 2014, during which time he fought with and defeated such wrestlers as Chavo Guerrero, Jack Wagger, Hunico, Heath Slater, and many others.

He also tag-teamed with Rey Mysterio, defeating several other tag teams, including the WWE Tag Team Champions Team Hell No, comprised of Daniel Bryan and Kane, though it was a non-title match.

Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide and Return to CMLL

After leaving the WWE in a not so popular manner, as he feuded with the entire WWE administration over the name of Sin Cara, he continued his career at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide under the ring name Myzteziz, and was rather successful, participating in several popular events, including Heroes Inmortales and AAA’s Lucha Libre World Cup.

He then fought for Lucha Libre Elite and several independent promotions, before returning to CMLL, where he won the Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship, then NWA World Historic Middleweight Championship, which he currently holds, and has won NWA World Middleweight Championship two times. He won the CMLL World Tag Team title under the ring name Carlistico, with wrestler Mistico II in 2019, and most recently, it was announced that Sin Cara, or Carlistico, will assume the name Mistico, following the release of the wrestler Mistico II.
