Fans of the “Beverly Hills Cop” movie franchise are certainly familiar with the character of Detective Billy Rosewood, a polite but bumbling guy who made friends with Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) and sticks up for him with their superiors, but many didn’t know that this was a breakthrough role for the actor who portrayed this character.
His name is Judge Reinhold, he has over 110 acting credits to his name, and besides the aforementioned role, he’s perhaps known best for his role as Neal in “The Santa Clause” trilogy, while to television series lovers, Judge is well-known as Steve Kessler from the series “Secret Service Guy”, and as Harry O’Keefe from “The O’Keefes”, also starring Kirsten Nelson and Joseph Cross.

Early life and education
Edward Ernest ‘Judge’ Reinhold Junior was born under the zodiac sign of Gemini on 21 May 1957, in Wilmington, Delaware USA, thus he holds American nationality, and he comes from a family of German and Irish descent.
He was raised alongside his sister Annie in Fredericksburg, Virginia, by their parents, Regina Celeste and Edward Ernest Reinhold – his family gave him the moniker ‘Judge’ because when he was a baby he looked stern and judge-like.
Speaking of Judge’s educational background, he attended Alexis I. Dupont High School, and upon matriculating in 1975, enrolled at Mary Washington College, transferred to Palm Beach Community College, and then eventually graduated with a BA degree, from the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, in 1979.
Roles in series
Judge made his acting debut portraying Jeff Gordon in an episode of the series “Wonder Woman” in 1979, followed by his role as Seaman Wolfe in “Magnum P. I.” in 1980. In the following years, he mostly focused on his movie roles, although he also guest-starred in numerous series, including “Insight” (1981), “Trying Times” (1989), and “Ghostwriter” (1993).
He was cast to play Aaron in the episode “The Raincoats” of the popular sitcom “Seinfeld”, which in 1994, brought him a nomination for the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series.
Two years later, Judge was seen as Steve Kesler in “Secret Service Guy”, and his next television role came in the 2003 series “The O’Keefes”, followed by guest roles in “Monk” (2004) and “Teen Titans” (2005) before he was cast to play Barry in “Easy Money” during 2008 and 2009.

Judge made his first movie appearance as Bear in the 1979 TV movie “Survival of Dana”, followed by his big-screen debut as Leroy Beecher in “Running Scared” in 1980. In the following year, he was seen as Elmo in “Stripes”, followed by his roles in “Pandemonium” and “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” in 1982.
The early ’80s also saw him in “The Lords of Discipline” (1983) and “Gremlins” (1984) before he was cast to play his most notable role as Detective Billy Rosewood in the crime comedy “Beverly Hills Cop”, also starring Eddie Murphy and John Ashton, which in 1985 was nominated for the Oscar for Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen.
Before he was seen in the sequel, Judge starred in “Head Office” (1985), “Off Beat” and “Ruthless People” both in 1986, and then he reprised his role as Billy Rosewood in – “Beverly Hills Cop 2” in 1987, followed by his role as Marshall in “Vice Versa” in 1988.
In the following year, Judge starred in “A Soldier’s Tale” and “Rosalie Goes Shopping”, while in 1990, he was seen in “Daddy’s Dyin’… Who’s Got the Will?” and “Enid Is Sleeping”, all of these roles significant for Judge’s career, as was his portrayal of Ernie in the 1992 movie “Baby on Board”.

Love life and wife
Judge hasn’t been the subject of any rumors and affairs concerning either his love life or his sexual orientation – it’s widely known that he was married before he met his now-wife.
From 1985 until 1986, he was married to Carrie Frazier, a casting director, known for her work on “Little Women”, “Escape from L. A.”, and “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” – she and Judge met on the casting for the latter in 1982. It isn’t clear when they started dating, however, their marriage lasted less than a year, and they haven’t shared the reason for their divorce.
From 1990 until 1993 he was dating Kaitlin Hopkins, an American actress known for her role as Kelsey Harrison in the series “Another World”.
Sometime in 1995, on a movie set, Judge noticed Amy Miller, a model from the make-up department, and the two started talking and eventually dating. They exchanged their wedding vows on 8 January 2000, and 12 years later, they welcomed their daughter, Hayley.
As of July 2022, Judge and Amy are still together, raising their daughter and living a seemingly peaceful life away from the media’s attention. Many of Judge’s fans believe that he’s retired from acting, although he hasn’t confirmed this assumption.

What happened to him? Arrest
On 8 September 2016, all newspapers and the internet were floated with the news about Judge Reinhold’s arrest at Dallas airport, reportedly on a misdemeanor for disorderly conduct, and was taken to jail after a confrontation with security agents at the airport. Judge was released the next morning, and apologized, citing medication that he was taking in his explanation for the incident.
Among other things, he said that he had been prescribed a medicine to treat a respiratory infection, and that after a bad reaction to the antibiotic, he was given ‘Zantax and Prednisone to ward off any recurrence of the reaction while in flight, adding: ‘No matter how seemingly harmless a medication can be, don’t ever introduce anything into your body chemistry when you’re about to travel.’
