Who is Joey Adams?
Joey Lauren Adams was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas USA, on 9 January 1968 – her zodiac sign’s Capricorn, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress, filmscript writer and director, with close to 100 acting credits to her name, while she’s perhaps still known best for her portrayal of the lead character Alyssa Jones in the 1997 romantic comedy drama “Chasing Amy”, written and directed by Kevin Smith, and which also starred Ben Affleck and Ethan Suplee. It follows comic book artists Holden and Banky who’ve met fellow artist Alyssa, while Holden’s fallen in love with her without knowing that she’s lesbian; the movie won five of the 21 awards for which it was nominated.
There are today various rumors circulating the internet, claiming that Joey’s retired from acting, however, she’s still highly active in the film industry, and is currently shooting for four upcoming movies, including “The Quest for Tom Sawyer’s Gold”, and “Twilight of the Mallrats”.
Early life and education
Joey was raised in North Little Rock alongside her two older siblings, by their father who was the owner of a lumber yard, and their mother who was a housewife; not a lot else is known about Joey’s family, as she respects their privacy.
She studied at North Little Rock Northeast High School and was interested in a couple of activities during her four years there, including acting with the school’s drama club, dancing and practicing creative writing. Joey spent a year in Australia as an exchange student, and upon her return to the US, revealed that she’d fallen in love with acting, and would go on and pursue a career in the film industry.
Roles in TV series
Joey made her debut TV series appearance in 1991, when cast to star as Mona Mullins alongside Matt LeBlanc in the comedy “Top of the Heap”, while a couple of her following roles were in the comedy “Vinnie & Bobby”, the short adventure comedy “CBS Schoolbreak Special”, and the comedy “Married… with Children”.
What was perhaps her most notable performance in the ‘90s was her portrayal of Darby in the family drama “Second Noah”, created by Pamela K. Long, and which starred Daniel Hugh Kelly, Betsy Brantley and James Marsden. The series follows a writer who’s married a zookeeper, while they’ve now adopted many children and rescued various animals; it was nominated for a Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series – Young Ensemble.
Joey played and voiced characters in an episode or two of only a couple of series in the 2000s, such as the animated action comedy “Stripperella” (voice role), the animated adventure comedy “What’s New, Scooby-Doo?” (voice role) and the mystery crime drama “Veronica Mars”.

In 2016 and 2017, she portrayed Debbie Lynn Cooke, one of the lead characters in the comedy “Still the King”, created by Billy Ray Cyrus and Travis Nicholson, who also starred in it; the series follows a one-hit-wonder country musician – Vernon Brownmule – who’s now become the second best Elvis impersonator.
Joey’s most recent TV series role has been her portrayal of Taylor in a 2022 episode of the family adventure drama “The Quest for Tom Sawyer’s Gold”.
Roles in movies
Joey made her debut film appearance in the critically acclaimed 1993 comedy “Dazed and Confused”, written and directed by Richard Linklater, and which starred Jason London, Wiley Wiggins and Matthew McConaughey. It follows a group of high school students during their final days of school in the summer of 1976; the movie won one of the five awards for which it was nominated.
A couple of Joey’s other notable performances in the ‘90s were in the 1993 science fiction comedy “Coneheads”, the 1996 comedy “Drawing Flies”, and the 1998 drama “A Cool, Dry Place”.
She voiced Squirrel in the 2001 fantasy family comedy “Dr. Dolittle 2”, directed by Steve Carr, and which starred Eddie Murphy, Cedric the Entertainer and Kristen Wilson. It follows Dr. Dolittle as he’s trying to save the life of a bear, as well as an entire forest, and the movie won three of the nine awards for which it was nominated. Joey was then cast to play Alyssa Jones in the hit 2001 comedy “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back”, Grace in the 2003 mystery comedy drama “The Big Empty” and Addie in the 2006 romantic comedy “The Break-Up”.
She portrayed Jamie in the popular 2013 biographical crime drama “Blue Caprice”, written and directed by Alexander Moors, and which starred Isaiah Washington, Tequan Richmond and Tim Blake Nelson. It follows the life of an abandoned boy who was lured to the USA and killed 10 people as a sniper, together with his father figure John Allen Muhammad; the movie won two of the 15 awards for which it was nominated.
Three of Joey’s most recent film roles have been in the 2016 thriller “All the Birds Have Flown South”, the 2019 action adventure comedy “Jay and Silent Bob Reboot”, and the 2022 comedy “Tankhouse”.

Love life and husband
Although Joey prefers to keep the details of her love life away from the media’s attention, it’s still widely known that she’s today a married woman. She exchanged vows with Brian Vilim on 7 June 2014, in a private ceremony attended by only the closest of their friends and family members; Brian’s a film producer, cameraman and cinematographer, perhaps known best for having worked as a cinematographer on the 2017 drama movie “Opus of an Angel”.
The two don’t have children together, and while most of Joey’s fans believe this to be because they’re focused on their careers, some have claimed that perhaps one of the two (or both) is infertile; Joey hasn’t addressed these rumors.
She hasn’t mentioned any other men whom she’s perhaps been with, and as of August 2022, she’s married to Brian Vilim, and doesn’t have children.

Joey’s a huge fan of country music, with some of her favorite musicians being Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson and Garth Brooks.
Her brother was once involved in a car accident and was in a coma, only reacting to Joey’s voice.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated in December 2003.
Joey’s quite active on Instagram, and is today followed by close to 30,000 people, while she’s uploaded over 100 pictures onto the network; most of these feature her during her everyday life.
