At a young age, Virginia was actually discovered while waiting at a bus stop, and so started her career as a fashion model. This led her to appear on various magazine covers in both Australia and the UK, and her net worth started increasing. She soon transitioned to an acting career, starting with television advertisements, which opened up opportunities in television and film as well. She did a total of 57 advertisements before completely focusing on other endeavors. One of her best-known appearances early in her career was for the music video of “Video Killed the Radio Star” by The Buggles, the first music video to be broadcast on MTV, in 1981.

Hey’s next notable role would be in the film “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior”, in which she played the Warrior Woman. The post-apocalypse film starred Mel Gibsen and focused on a community of settlers and the titular character who faces a band of marauders, constructed in a typical Western Frontier film style. Her net worth then increased further when she was cast in the James Bond film “The Living Daylights”, the 15th entry in the “James Bond” film series based on the Ian Fleming short story of the same name, and starring Timothy Dalton. Hey was then cast in the series “Farscape”, in which she played the alien priestess Zotoh Zhaan, and for her performance, she was nominated for a Saturn Award for Best Supporting Actress. However, during the third season of the show, she left due to health concerns – the makeup was causing problems to her kidneys!

Virginia has since been cast in several soap operas, including “Prisoner (Cell Block H)”, “Neighbours”, “E Street”, and “Pacific Drive” in which she plays Margaux Hayes; most of these soap operas were a hit in Australia.

She also started her own company called White Flower Lie, which manufactures soaps and perfumes. Virginia also teaches meditation, and is certified in natural therapy.

For her personal life, it is known that Hey had a relationship with the late Michael Hutchence, but nothing is known about any current romantic relationship.

She currently resides in the UK and teaches meditation there. She also has her own personal website which promotes her therapy classes and products.
