Frank Edwin Wright III was born on the 9th December 1972 in Frankfurt, (then) West Germany, of part-German descent but American parents. He is a musician and composer, who has been the drummer of the punk group Green Day since 1989. He has also played with Samiam, The Lookouts, The Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs. He was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2015. Tre Cool has been active in the entertainment industry since 1985.

To begin with, Frank was raised in Willits, California. His father, a pilot during the Cold War, decided to build a house in Willits so that his children could grow safely. His second wife Claudia, he married in the middle of 2000, and they had a son before divorcing in 2003. There are several other women Tre Cool has dated, even becoming engaged to Dena Roberson, but he married Sara Rose Lipert in 2014.
