He’s an actor, film producer and director, who has appeared in close to 150 movies and TV series, while he’s probably known best for his portrayal of Yondu Udonta, in the 2014 action adventure comedy movie “Guardians of the Galaxy”.

It was written and directed by James Gunn, starred Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel (voice) and Bradley Cooper (voice), and follows several intergalactic criminals who have teamed up to stop a villain from destroying the universe; the movie won 54 of the 106 awards for which it was nominated, including two Oscar nominations.

Michael was raised in Jasper alongside his nine brothers and sisters by their parents, but who divorced in 1968, when Michael was 13; Michael and all his siblings moved with their mother to Chicago, Illinois. Some of Michael’s other notable performances in the ‘90s were in the 1993 biographical action movie “Tombstone”, the 1996 thriller film “The Trigger Effect”, and the 1998 crime thriller “Brown’s Requiem”.

What marked the 2000s for Michael was perhaps his portrayal of William Rice in the hit science fiction adventure “Jumper”, directed by Doug Liman, and which starred Hayden Christensen, Samuel L. Jackson and Jamie Bell. It follows a teenager who has just learned that he can teleport, but has found himself in the middle of a war which his ancestors have been fighting for millennia; the movie won two of the seven awards for which it was nominated.
