Early life, family, educational background
Mia Elan Swier was born on 1 September 1985, in New York USA. Little is known about her parents and childhood, however, it’s been revealed that her family moved to Alabama when she was still young, and where Mia attended Indian Springs School from 1998 to 2003. She returned to New York in 2004 to study at New York University’s Steinhardt School for Media Studies and Television Production, continuing her education at New York Film Academy in Los Angeles, California US in 2007.

Mia began her career in media while still studying at New York University. According to her LinkedIn profile, she started working as a production assistant at White Cherry Entertainment in 2004, staying in the job until 2006, and during which period, she had the chance to work on projects such as the “Superbowl”, “Daytime Emmy Awards”, “Tony Awards”. In 2005, she was a production intern at ABC Television, working on TV shows such as “One Life to Live” and “The Tony Danza Show”.
After leaving the ABC Network in 2006, Mia work as a Nashville Star Production Assistant at USA Networks; in 2007, she was the talent intern for the show “Saturday Night Live”. From 2009 to 2012, she worked as an associate producer at Showtime Networks Inc., producing shows such as “Dexter”, “Homeland” and “Shameless” among others. In 2009, she also directed the short movie “A (Not So) Civil Union”, which told the story of the first legalized lesbian wedding, and starred Victoria Bundonis, Megan Channell and Emma Kenney. During the same year, she volunteered as Jury Liaison at Tribeca Film Festival in New York City.
In 2012, she founded Von Glitz Productions, and has since been working there as a freelance producer and director. She’s directed short films, and music videos such as the single “I Don’t Belong to You” by Keke Palmer.
From 2012 to 2015, Mia was a writer and producer at Fox Broadcasting Company, working on TV series such as “New Girl”, “Glee” and “Scream Queens” among others.

According to IMDB, Mia is also a professional singer, mainly performing in the rock ‘n’ roll genre. In 2009, she founded the rock band “Shoot the Freak” in collaboration with Garrett Cillo, Devon Johnson and Alberto Duhau, and in 2011, the band released two albums: “Honcho” and “Hell On Heels EP”, but the band broke up in 2012.
To pay tribute to Guns n’ Roses, Mia started a new band Guns n’ Hoses, which featured only women and comprised Charlene Kaye (as Gash), Mia (as Muff McKagan), Erin Marsz (as Axl Hose), Emmy Wildwood (as Lizzy Stradlin), and Gina Ilasi (as Stephanie Adler). Mia was also a lead vocalist in the band “Mad Moon Riot”, but left the group in 2015.

Mia Swier is married to Darren Criss; they met each other in 2009 but they didn’t start dating right away, getting together in 2010 after working together on the TV show “Glee”. The date of their engagement is unknown, however, they announced the news on Instagram and Twitter on 20 January 201, and married on 16 February 2019 in New Orleans. They announced expecting a child in October 202, and their daughter Bluesy Belle Criss was born on 11 April 2022.
