Who is Gratiela Brancusi?

American actress Gratiela Brancusi was born in Timisoara, Romania, on 23 July 1989, making Leo her zodiac sign. She has only two acting credits, and is perhaps known best for starring as Noemi in the critically acclaimed 2022 western mini-series “1883”, created by Taylor Sheridan, and which also starred Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill. It follows the Dutton family’s journey to the west, and the mini-series won two of its 26 award nominations.

Gratiela’s also known for being a former wife of famous American actor and moviemaker Timothy Francis ‘Tim’ Robbins.

Education and early life

Gratiela and her 11 years senior sister were raised by their mother after their parents’ divorce when Gratiela was less than two years old; not a lot her been revealed about her parents, because she respects their privacy, but it’s known that she’s the great-grandniece of the late Romanian sculptor, painter and photographer Constantin Brancusi.

Gratiela was interested in both journalism and acting while attending a local high school; she was a member of the school’s drama club and appeared in number of plays performed there, while she also wrote columns for the school’s newspaper.

She matriculated in 2007 and then enrolled at University of Bucharest, from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2011; she then went on to practice acting and became a member of The Actors’ Gang Theatre Ensemble.

Career as an actress

Gratiela began acting in theatre plays in 2015, but hasn’t revealed the name of any of these. Following the outbreak of the coronavirus, she began auditioning for roles in movies and TV series, and thus launched her career on TV.

She’s had only one other role besides “1883”: in 2023, Gratiela played Tatiana in four episodes of the critically acclaimed crime thriller series “Mayor of Kingstown”, created by Hugh Dillon and Taylor Sheridan, and which stars Jeremy Renner, Dianne Wiest and Hugh Dillon. It follows the wealthy McLusky family as they’re fighting corruption and racism in Kingstown, Michigan, it’s been airing since 2021, and has been nominated for two awards.

Love life and marriage with Tim Robbins

Gratiela only gained recognition on the internet when it was revealed that she’d married Tim Robbins, in a private ceremony on 1 February 2017; the marriage didn’t last long, as they split on 1 July 2020, and filed for divorce in January 2021.

Gratiela’s yet to speak of other men whom she’s perhaps dated, while it’s known that Tim was in a relationship with famous American actress Susan Sarandon from 1988 through December 2009, and they have two children together: son John ‘Jack’ Henry, born on 15 May 1989, and another son Miles Robbins, born on 4 May 1992; Miles is today a popular actor and musician.

He’s appeared in close to 80 movies and TV series, and is perhaps still known best for playing Dave Boyle, one of the main characters in the 2003 crime mystery film “Mystic River”, directed by Clint Eastwood, and which also starred Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon. It follows the lives of three childhood friends, and the movie won 56 of its 200 award nominations, including two Oscar wins for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Sean Penn) and Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Tim).

Tim was raised in New York City, as his family moved there not long after he was born. His father was the late American folk singer and actor Gilbert Lee ‘Gil’ Robbins, while his mother is American musician Mary Cecelia; Tim’s sisters are Gabrielle and Adele, while his brother David Robbins is today a famous music composer. He attracted a lot of attention with his portrayal of Bob Roberts in the eponymous 1992 comedy, which he also wrote and directed; the film follows the life of a conservative folk singer who’s become a politician, and it won four of its seven award nominations. Some of Tim’s notable performances in the remainder of the decade were in the 1994 drama “The Shawshank Redemption”, which was nominated for seven Oscars and is considered to be one of the best movie of all time, and in 1999 the crime action “Arlington Road” and the action adventure comedy “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me”.

What marked the 2000s for Tim, besides his role in “Mystic River”, was perhaps playing The Stranger in the 2006 adventure musical comedy “Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny”, directed by Liam Lynch, and which starred Jack Black, Kyle Gass and JR Reed. It follows two wannabe rock ‘n’ roll musicians who are planning to steal a legendary guitar pick, believed to give its owners amazing guitar skills; the movie was nominated for two awards.

Some of Tim’s following notable performances were in the 2011 action science fiction adventure movie “Green Lantern”, the 2012 drama film “Back to 1942”, and the 2015 war comedy movie “A Perfect Day”; some of his most recent appearances have been in the comedy movie “VHYes”, the biographical historical film “Dark Waters”, and 10 episodes of the fantasy horror “Castle Rock”, all released in 2019.

Tim’s won 38 of his 78 award nominations, including his Oscar win for “Mystic River”.
