Nothing I can do about that,’ also adding that some of them are quite funny. He went viral on 4 October 2021, when during a game with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he pulled out his tongue making some kind of awkward facial expression, which caused him overnight he become a meme – his brother commented saying: ‘Probably wasn’t even thinking about what he was doing.’

Early life, family, and education

Steve was raised in Ridgewood by his parents, alongside his brother Brian and sister Amanda. His mother is Debby Clarke Belichick, whose profession hasn’t been revealed, however, NFL fans are certainly familiar with Steve’s father, Bill Belichick.

He’s the most successful professional football coach, with six Super Bowl wins to his credit, currently the head coach of the New England Patriots; he started his coaching career as the defensive co-ordinator for the New York Giants in 1975. Bill is the son of the late American Football player, coach, and scout, Stephen Nickolas Belichick, whose parents were immigrants from Croatia, who changed their surname from Biličić to Belichick.

Being raised in a family of successful football players and coaches, it isn’t surprising that Steve followed in their steps and became a coach, although, back in high school, he played lacrosse.

His brother Brian also works for the New England Patriots as a safeties coach, while their sister Amanda is a lacrosse coach.

Speaking of Steve’s educational background, he attended The Rivers School, in Weston, Massachusetts, and upon matriculating in 2005, he enrolled at Rutgers University, where he also played lacrosse as a long-stick midfielder and defenseman, and has played for the Rutgers Football team as a long snapper; he graduated in 2008.

Career

In 2012, Steve was hired by the New England Patriots as a coaching assistant, and at the start of the 2016 season, he was named safeties coach, and then in 2017 he was part of the coaching staff that won Super Bowl LI, when on 5 February the New England Patriots defeated the Atlanta Falcons with a score 34-28 in overtime. After the game Steve stated in one of his interviews:

‘When you’re part of the family and your dad wins the Super Bowl, you feel like you’re part of it, but you’re really not. To be fully part of the team and to win the Super Bowl: to say it changed my life is an understatement’, adding that he had dreamed of this ever since he knew what the Super Bowl was, that it was the best feeling in the world, especially that he was part of the staff, and was alongside his father, who is his idol.

Under Steve’s guidance in 2018, the Patriots defense held the Los Angeles Rams to a Super Bowl record-tying low three points en route to victory in Super Bowl LIII; at that time, he was serving as the team’s secondary coach.

In 2019, after a long-time assistant Brian Flores left, Steve assumed defensive play-calling duties previously held by Brian, and also continued serving as the secondary coach.

On 28 July 2020, Steve became the outside linebacker coach, and his brother Brian took over at safeties, with Steve saying in his interview for Patriots Wire: ‘We’ve talked a lot about it and obviously we’re extremely close, being brothers, and as an older brother and a more veteran coach than he is, I’m doing the best I can to lead him through that safety room.’

Steve and Jennifer haven’t revealed how and when they met, but it’s known that they married in June 2017, at the Siasconset Union Chapel on the island of Nantucket, Massachusetts, in the presence of their families and friends.

On 18 October 2017, they became parents for the first time when Jennifer gave birth to their daughter Blakely, and their son Hayes was born on 23 October 2020.
