When Skip was still studying in high school, he became interested in different kinds of sports and was even named the Athlete of the Year. Bayless was very good at basketball and participated in many games, where he was able to show the best results. Skip was so interested in sports that, with the urging of his teachers, he decided to become a sports columnist for the school newspaper. Who would have thought that this would become one of his main activities in the future as well? Skip continued his studies at the Vanderbilt University, from where he graduated with a degree in English and History in 1974. Notably he was also the sports editor of The Hustler, the university’s student newspaper, and spent the summer of 1969 interning under sports editor Frank Boggs at The Daily Oklahoman.

In 1976 Bayless started working for the “Los Angeles Times”, and this was when Skip’s net worth really began growing. He became so famous that many other newspapers showed interest in hiring him. Skip had an opportunity to work for “The Wall Street Journal”, “Dallas Times Herald” and “The Dalla Morning News”.
