Simon was born to Linda and William, and besides English, is also of Jewish ancestry. He grew up in Buckinghamshire where he attended Juniper Hill School and later Royal Grammar School. Simon enrolled in the movie-making industry in 2000 when he began working on the low-budget motion picture “Two Days, Nine Lives”. He wrote the script and later directed and even produced the entire film which was then released in 2001. This venture provided the basis for Simon Monjack’s net worth.

In 2006, Simon was engaged as the story co-writer for the biographical drama about Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol’s superstar actresses and muses, “Factory Girl”. Despite featuring Sienna Miller, Jimmy Fallon and Guy Pearce in the leading roles, the movie lacked commercial success, scoring only $3.5 million at the box office. Apart from this, there were also some controversies about off-camera actions – director George Hickenlooper stated that Monjack claimed that the crew stole his script and then held them hostage, holding the filming back. Monjack denied these rumors, however, this project made an impact on Monjack’s net worth.

Although in 2007 E! News acknowledged that Monjack was chosen to direct a movie adaptation of D. M. Thomas‘ novel “The White Hotel”, it never came to realization. In 2010, Monjack was engaged as the make-up artist for Michael Feifer’s action thriller “Abandoned” featuring Brittany Murphy in the leading female role, which made a positive contribution to the size of Simon Monjack’s net worth.

When it comes to his personal life, Simon Monjack was married twice, firstly in 2001 to Simone Bienne, but they separated only five months later, and officially divorced in 2006. In 2007, after a private ceremony, Simon married Brittany Murphy with whom he stayed until her death in 2009. Only five months later, Simon passed away in the same bed and from the same cause of death as Brittany, on the 23rd May 2010. These suspicious circumstances ruffled the media, but after several months the coroner’s report stated that he died of pneumonia and anemia, brought on by a heart attack.

In 2005, Monjack was faced with arrest on charges of credit card fraud, but these were later dropped, while in 2006 he was sued by Coutts Bank for $470,000, and was forced into eviction from four homes. In 2007, Monjack spent nine days imprisoned, as his US visa had expired.
