Vashon King Miller, known professionally as Silkk the Shocker, is an American songwriter, rapper and actor, perhaps known best for his debut album “The Shocker,” released in 1996.

Early life, family, educational background

Silkk the Shocker is an American national born in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, on 18 June 1975, to his parents Percy and Josie Miller. Silk is the youngest of five children, all of whom were raised by their father in a high-crime area of New Orleans. He is the brother of well-known rappers Corey Miller (known as C Murder) and Percy Robert Miller Sr. (Master P), and the cousin of Mo B. Dick. When he was 13 years old, their family moved to Richmond, California, where he matriculated from De Anza High School in 1994.

Master P- Eldest brother and entrepreneur

His eldest brother, Percy Robert Miller Sr., often known as Master P, is an American rapper, actor, entrepreneur, investor, author, filmmaker and record producer, born on 29 April 1970. Following the death of their grandfather, Master P received a $10,000 inheritance from the malpractice settlement, which he used to open the No Limit store. He noticed that there were a lot of people who liked funky, street-level beats, rap, which led him to turn No Limit into a record label in 1990.

However, in the same year, when he released his tape “Mind of Psychopath,” one of their brothers, Kevin Miller was killed; the sad event inspired Master P to strive more as an entrepreneur, and release more albums under his label, many distributed by Priority, Universal, and Koch Records. After his initial success as an entrepreneur, he established the entertainment and financial company P. Miller Enterprises, and Better Black Television, an African-American multimedia company.

C-Murder- songwriter and rapper

Sillk’s brother Corey C. Miller, better known as C-Murder, is also an American songwriter and rapper, born on 9 March 1971.

Silkk and C-Murder are members of the No Limit Records group “Tru,” which was founded by their brother Master P. He also recorded nine solo albums released through various companies, including Koch Records, Asylum Records, RBC Records, and Venti Uno. At the pinnacle of his career, he was convicted of 2nd-degree murder for beating and shooting 16-year-old fan Steve Thomas, in a bar in Harvey, Louisiana. He was sentenced to life imprisonment on 14 August 2009. His family, friends, and other celebrities such as Snoop Dog and Kin Kardashian have appealed for a re-trial of his case.

Career

Rapping career

Silkk began rapping when he was a teenager, and became a member of several gangster crews, including the Down South Hustlers. His styles include Hip hop, Southern hip hop, and Gangsta Rap. Before adopting his stage name Silkk, he was part of Tru alongside his brothers, Master P and C-Murder, eventually changing his name to Silkk the Shocker after the release of his first album on 20 August 1996. In the late 1990s, his second album, Charge It 2 da Game made him famous, and he was invited to contribute to songs of numerous singers, such as Destiny’s Child and M媒a.

Although the majority of their records were underground hits, Silkk was their most marketable performer, due to his youthful good looks.

In 1999, his “Made Man” album went to number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 240,000 copies in a single week, eventually received platinum certification for this album. His latest successful albums were “My World” and “My Way” in 2001, as his 2004 album entitled “Based on a True Story” only reached number 88 on the Billboard 200. Silkk has released six albums since 1996 under several labels – Limit Forever Records, Shocker World, XLP Distribution, EMI, Entertainment One, Guitar Music, and Globy House labels.

Silk was also heard with 14 other musicians on the WWE Wreckless Intent album, released on 23 May 2006 by World Wrestling Entertainment. His song on the album entitled “I’m Comin” was used as the theme song of the WWE Smackdown wrestler, Montel Vontavious. He also performed the theme song “Do It Big”, of former Smackdown wrestler Orlando Jordan.

Acting career

In addition to rapping and composing, Silkk has explored acting, and was credited for being the lead role in the “Hot Boyz” film produced by No Limit Records in 1999. After eight years, he also participated in the movie “More Money, More Family,” which he co-produced with Tracy McGrady.
