Sheryl is the daughter of Billy and Marry Stamps, who both worked as educators. She grew up in Dallas and went to Kimball High School. After matriculation, she enrolled at Southern Methodist University, from which she obtained her bachelor’s degree, but then furthered her studies at Texas A&M University-Commerce, from which she obtained her master’s degree, and some time later received an honorary doctorate.

Initially, she worked as a teacher, but started a collaboration with Kathy Parker on a children’s show, which would feature a teddy bear as its star. However, her baby son was fond of dinosaurs, and they changed the lead character from a teddy bear to dinosaur. After a while, Sheryl formed a team consisting of Parker and Dennis DeShazer to help her start the ”Barney and the Backyard Gang” children’s show. In its initial form, it was sold directly to the public, but after Larry Rifkin of the Connecticut Public Television rented one of the videos for his daughter, he immediately became interested in putting her creation on television. The show was launched in 1992 under the title “Barney & Friends”, and lasted until 2009, and has been recently revived in 2017. This project significantly boosted Sheryl’s net worth.

Aside from the original series, Sheryl has also worked on films and specials about the popular dinosaur and his friends, and so far has produced such titles as “Barney in Outer Space” (1998), “Barney: A Very Merry Christmas: The movie” (2011), “Barney: Clean Up, Clean Up!” (2012), “Barney: Let’s Go to the Doctor” (2012), and “Imagine with Barney” (2013), among many others, the success of which only increased her wealth.

Aside from Barney, Sheryl has started the production company, SL Productions LLC, through which she has worked on the feature film, “The Unicorn Sonata”, among others.

Regarding her personal life, Sheryl has been married to Howard Rosenfeld. Previously, she was married to James Edmund Leach, with whom she has one child.

Sheryl is also a well-known philanthropist, funding the Shei’rah Foundation, through which she focuses on settling the differences between cultures.
