Sharna is a daughter of Ray and Lucy Burgess. While growing up she had more of boyish looks, however, she found herself in ballet and other dances, but was also into sports. Nevertheless, young Sharna focused on ballet and when she turned eight years old began training in ballroom dance. In the following years, Sharna showed her skills and won several local and national titles, and when she turned 15, Sharna was selected to perform at the World Championships for Australia in the categories of Standard and Latin styles. Sharna was quite close to ending her career, when she ripped two ligaments in half and lost all the meniscus in one knee, after performing with a small tear in her knee ligament in the World Championships finals. She discovered the injury after semi-finals, but despite that, continued to finals.
Also, she showcased her talents at the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games closing ceremony.
Her next move was migration to London, where she continued to participate in dancing competitions, winning titles and improving her resume. She also toured with Simply Ballroom, after which she commenced a friendship with choreographer Jason Gilkison who brought her onto the cast of the Burn the Floor, a live dance show, thanks to which Sharna appeared on Broadway, and featured in several other theaters around the world.
Sharna made her debut appearance on the Australian version of the “Dancing with the Stars” show, and also appeared in Belgium and Netherland in the show, called “So You Think You Can Dance”. She firstly served as a troupe member, but fortunately her role began slowly to increase, and after three seasons she became a professional dancer on the show. Her first partner was comedian, actor and musician Andy Dick, but their partnership was good enough for only seventh place. For the next season, Sharna was paired with NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, but it got only worse, since the two were the first to be eliminated. In her third appearance, Sharna was partnered with figure skater Charlie White; thanks to his skills Sharna recorded her best result on the show, fifth place. She had another disastrous year in 19th season, as she and her partner Tavis Smiley were first eliminated. Nevertheless, Sharna returned for the 21st season of the show, and with Nick Carter finished in second place. In recent years, she was fourth with Antonio Brown and second again, this time with race car driver James Hinchcliffe, all of which have only increased her net worth.
Regarding her personal life, she was in a relationship with choreographer and dance Paul Kirkland for five years, from 2010 until 2015, but currently is believed to be single. Apart from ballroom dance, she is also experienced in disco, hip hop, swing and jazz dance.
