Acting career

Shantel made her acting debut in the 2012 action crime drama movie “Freelancers”, directed by Jessy Terrero and written by L. Philippe Casseus. The movie starred 50 Cent, Forest Whitaker, and Robert De Niro, with Shantel playing a prominent supporting role.

The plot follows the story of Malo (played by 50 Cent), a young man who joins the police force in order to follow in his father’s footsteps. Malo quickly learns that the police department is rife with corruption, and begins to associate himself with a group of renegade cops led by his father’s former partner, Lieutenant Sarcone (played by Robert De Niro).

Shantel plays the role of Maria, the love interest of Malo. She works as a waitress at a nightclub frequented by Sarcone and his crew, and becomes involved with Malo after he saves her from a group of violent patrons.

In the following years, Shantel appeared in short films “Eye of the Beholder”, “Good Riddance”, and “Love of Art”. Her latest feature film role was in the 2022 drama “The Lady Makers”, written and directed by Tony Tite, and which starred Amber Reign Smith, Danielle Madison, and Lupe Leon.

TV appearances

Aside from her acting and modeling work, Shantel is also known for her appearances in reality TV shows. Her most prominent was in “Nellyville”, which premiered on the BET network in November 2014. The show followed the life of Grammy Award-winning rapper Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., as he balances his career with his family life.

The show featured Shantel as his girlfriend, and she appeared as a recurring character throughout the series. She is shown supporting Nelly as he navigates his music career, while also dealing with her own business ventures. In addition to Nelly and Shantel, “Nellyville” also featured Nelly’s family, including his two children from a previous relationship, his sister, his niece, and his parents. The show highlighted the family’s relationships and interactions, and offered a more intimate look into Nelly’s life. However, the show ultimately failed to achieve high ratings, and was ultimately canceled after only two seasons.

Aside from being a regular on “Nellyville”, Shantel has made appearances in other shows such as “Ridiculousness”, “The Platinum Life”, and “Celebrity Game Face”.

Shantel is also an entrepreneur, having started multiple companies. Her biggest success as a business owner is a brand called Shoe Gummi, which sells pads designed to make wearing high heels more comfortable. She had the idea for the product back in 2009, and her patent was finally approved in 2018. Shoe Gummi has since been featured in several magazines, and endorsed by a number of social media influencers.

Love life and relationships

Shantel was thrust into the spotlight after she started dating the now former professional boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. Their relationship began in 2006, after meeting when Shantel was working as a hostess at a party in Atlanta, Georgia. Floyd was immediately taken with her, and the two began dating soon after. Shantel became a regular fixture at Floyd’s fights and was often seen sitting ringside.

The couple’s relationship was not without controversy, however. In 2014, not long after the two broke up, Shantel filed a lawsuit against Floyd, alleging that he had physically abused her. The lawsuit also claimed that he had stolen her jewelry, and threatened to release nude photos of her if she went public with the abuse allegations.

The lawsuit was settled out of court in 2015, with Shantel reportedly receiving a seven-figure settlement.

In 2014, Shantel started dating Nelly, whom she reportedly met at a private party in Atlanta. The two have also collaborated professionally, with Shantel appearing in Nelly’s 2015 music video for his song “The Fix”, which features a steamy scene between them. They’ve also been spotted together at several red carpet events, including the 2016 Face Gala, and the 2019 Miss Universe pageant.

Shantel stood by Nelly during his 2017 second-degree rape investigation, which was later dropped, later leading him to pursue a counter-lawsuit.

The couple has been relatively private about their relationship, only sharing glimpses of their life together on social media and TV. The last time they appeared together in public was in 2020, which has since sparked rumors about them possibly having broken up. This was confirmed by Shantel, who responded to a fan’s question by saying that the two are now ‘just friends’.
