In 1983 he launched his own company, Lewis Energy, and since then he has spread his business to Mexico and Columbia, collaborating with such oil and gas giants as Pemex, Hupecol Caracara and Solana Resources. Back in 2003 he sold most of his Texas pipelines to Dan Duncan, who is the CEO of Enterprise Products Partners.

According to sources Lewis receives as much as $350 million from Pemex for drilling on his land. Furthermore, he owns 350,000 acres of the Eagle Ford Shale property, on which British Petroleum started drilling in 2010. Although they are using only 80,000 acres of Rodney’s land, his net worth also continues to benefit.

Regarding his personal life, Rodney was married to Kimberly Annette Spicer from 1978 until 2013, when she filed for divorce. The couple has four children. He now lives in San Antonio, Texas. In the past, Rodney suffered from esophageal cancer, and although he fully recovered, he lost his salivary glands in the treatment process.

Rodney is also a well-known philanthropist, and through his Rod and Kim Lewis Foundation supports other charitable organizations. Thanks to his efforts, he received Angel of Hope Award for his work in providing Christmas gifts to needy children in Webb County.

Lewis is an avid World War II- era planes enthusiast, and he has around 30 planes, which includes the Glacier Girl, which he bought for $10 million.
