Rex Wayne Tillerson was born on 23 March 1952, in Wichita Falls, Texas USA, and is well-known in business as the Chairman, President and Chief Executive of the Exxon Mobil oil company. The company is one of the largest in the world, and as the leader of such an influential business, Forbes magazine ranks Rex Tillerson as the 20th most powerful person in the world.
So just how rich is Rex Tillerson? Forbes estimates that in 2015 Rex’s net worth is over $150 million, and he is in the top ten highest paid CEOs in the USA, with a salary package of over $23 million per year.
Rex Tillerson Net Worth $150 Million
Rex Tillerson was educated at Huntsville High School, and graduated from the University of Texas with a BSC in civil engineering in 1975. Tillerson joined Exxon as an engineer straight after graduation, and has spent all his working life with the company. He has held various positions with Exxon, domestically and internationally. Initially Rex held several engineering, technical and supervisory appointments in the production department in Texas, and in 1987 was named business development manager of the natural gas department, developing plans for commercialization of Arctic gas fields. In 1989 he was appointed general manager of Exxon’s central production division, responsible for oil and gas production operations throughout the center of the USA. Suffice to say that Rex Tillerson’s net worth grew steadily with his advancement through the hierarchy of Exxon.
In 1995 Rex Tillerson became president of Exxon Yemen Inc. and Esso Exploration and Production Khorat Inc. In 1998 he was appointed a vice president of Exxon Ventures as well as president of Exxon Neftegas Limited, including being responsible for Exxon’s holdings in Russia and in the Caspian Sea area.
Following the merger of Exxon and Mobil in 1999, Tillerson was named Executive Vice President of ExxonMobil Development Company, and in 2004 became president and director of Exxon Mobil. Finally, in early 2006 he was elected chairman and chief executive officer. Tillerson tenure in both positions was confirmed in 2008, when a Rockefeller-sponsored resolution to separate them was defeated. Subsequently, Tillerson negotiated the acquisition of XTO Energy in 2009, a major natural gas producer, and in 2011 signed an agreement with Russia for drilling in the Arctic, the likely value of which may be up to $300 billion, but (temporarily?) effected by US sanctions against Russia in 2014. Clearly all these achievements have been instrumental in lifting Rex Tillerson’s net worth to its current level.
Rex Tillerson’s abilities and achievements in the oil and gas industry are so well regarded that he was voted Petroleum Executive of the Year for 2015.
Tillerson is also a trustee for the Center for Strategic and International Studies, and the American Petroleum Institute, and is a member of the Business Roundtable. Additionally he is an honorary trustee of the Business Council for International Understanding, and a member of the Emergency Committee for American Trade.
In his personal life, Rex Tillerson is married to Renda St Clair, and they have four children.
