He went to Longfellow Elementary School in Waterloo, Iowa for a year, and then transferred to Shenandoah. As his father performed on the radio at that time, Phil and his brother sang with him in the show “Little Donnie And Baby Boy Phil”, so the family became well-known. In 1953, they moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, where Phil attended West High School. Two years later, he moved with Don to Nashville, Tennessee, while his parents relocated to Madison, Tennessee. There, Phil matriculated from Peabody Demonstration School in 1957.

While he lived in Knoxville, Phil and Don were spotted by Chet Atkins, who worked as the manager of RCA Victor’s studio in Nashville. Thus, they formed the duo called The Everly Brothers and moved there in order to pursue careers in the music industry. Their first studio album in the next decade was “Both Sides Of An Evening” (1961), which didn’t have major success, however, Phil and Don continued to make music, releasing such albums as “Gone, Gone, Gone” (1964), “Two Yanks In England” (1966), and “Roots” (1968), among others, all of which added a considerable amount to his net worth. During the 1970s, they released only two studio albums “Stories We Could Tell” (1972) and “Pass The Chicken & Listen” in 1973, after which they split up and pursued careers. However, they reunited in 1984 and released the album “EB 84”. Moreover, they collaborated with Johnny Cash on the single “Ballad Of A Teenage Queen” in 1989.
