Peter Clay Carroll was born on September 15, 1951 in San Francisco, California USA, of mixed origin including Irish and Croatian. Pete Carroll is a well-known American football coach of the Seattle Seahawks of the National Football League (NFL). Pete has also been the head coach of the New York Jets, New England Patriots, and the University of Southern California (USC) Trojans. Pete showed interest in sports from his childhood. He attended Redwood High School at Larkspur, but because of his lack of weight at only 110 pounds (50kg) he needed a doctor’s approval to play football – Peter subsequently played wide receiver, quarterback or defensive back. In December of 2000 it was announced that Carroll would head coach the USC Trojans, signing a contract for five seasons, replacing Paul Hackett. He earned $1 million annually but received a raise after 2002 and in 2004 his annual earning was $3 million. In nine seasons, USC won two national collegiate titles and played in another final, with Carroll sporting a most impressive 83-19 win-loss record.
In 2010 after some controversial NCAA sanctions against USC, Carroll announced that he would leave to become head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, signing a five year contract worth an impressive $33 million. His crowning glory to date has been the Seahawks winning the 2014 Super Bowl, and then being losing finalists the year after.
Regarding his personal life, Carroll was married to Wendy Pearl(1973-75) and has been married to Glena Goranson since 1976 – they have three children. He is a noted philanthropist, including founding charity A Better LA, with the aim of reducing violence in certain areas of Los Angeles.
