Who is Nirav Tolia?
American businessman and TV personality Nirav Tolia, was born in Odessa, Texas USA, in 1973, and although his exact date of birth remains undisclosed, his zodiac sign’s believed to be Gemini. He’s probably best known for having appeared in four episodes (2021-2022) of the family reality game-show “Shark Tank”, which stars Kevin O’Leary, Phil Crowley and Mark Cuba, and follows entrepreneurs as they’re asking businessmen to invest in their ideas; the show’s been running since 2009, and has won 15 of its 60 award nominations.
Education and early life
Nirav was raised an only child in Odessa, by his father Nalin Tolia who was an ophthalmologist, and his mother Kamal Tolia who was a gynecologist; both Nalin and Kamal are of Indian descent, and follow the Hindu religion.
Nirav grew up looking up to his parents who are both academically educated, and he thus chose to focus on his education as well. He studied at a local high school in Odessa, and was interested in a number of activities during his four years there; Nirav was in his school’s football team, played both supporting and lead characters in a number of school plays, and practiced creative writing.
He matriculated in 1991 and then enrolled at Stanford University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in English literature in 1995.
Nirav’s career
Nirav began attracting attention in May 1996, when he was hired to work at Yahoo! as their associate producer; he left the company in May 1997, and a month later co-founded the company Round Zero, serving as its president until June 2002.
Between April 1999 and April 2003, Nirav also worked at Epinion as vice president of business and marketing development, and was afterwards promoted to CEO. In August 2007, he began working at Benchmark Capital, a job which he held for half a year.
In January 2008He co-founded another company, Fanbase, and spent two years working as its CEO; in September 2010, Nirav launched the company Nextdoor.com, which remains his most successful firm to this day – it offers neighbors connections with each other, exchange recommendations and welcome newcomers.
He stopped working as the CEO of Nextdoor.com in December 2018, wanting to focus on launching new businesses.

TV appearances
Nirav’s also something of an actor, as he appeared in the 2016 episode “Bachman’s Earnings Over-Ride” of the comedy series “Silicon Valley”, created by John Altschuler, Mike Judge and Dave Krinsky, and which starred Thomas Middleditch, T. J. Miller and John Brener. It follows American engineer Richard Hendricks as he’s trying to launch his company Pied Piper, the series aired from 2014 to 2019, and won 17 of its 116 award nominations.
In 2015 and 2016, Nirav appeared as the CEO of Nextdoor in two episodes of the talk-show “CBS This Morning”; it stars Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell, has been airing since 1992, and has won six of its 32 award nominations.
The year 2017 saw Nirav make a guest appearance in an episode of the news show “Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street”, which has been airing since 2016, and stars Maria Bartimoro, Gary Kaminsky and Anthony Scaramucci; it follows Maria and her guests as they’re discussing business topics.
Nirav’s only other TV appearance was in the 2018 documentary movie “Bias”, directed by Robin Hauser, and which starred Mahzarin Banaji, Iris Bohnet and Joanna Bryson. The documentary aims to help people understand their hidden biases and follow their gut, and it won four awards.
Presence on social media networks
Nirav’s quite popular on Instagram, and there are today over 2,500 people following him on the social media network, while he’s posted nearly 300 pictures and videos onto his account; most of his newer pictures feature his wife and their children.
Nirav launched his Twitter account in July 2007, and he’s since tweeted over 2,100 times, while there are over 8,000 people following him on the network today.
His Facebook profile numbers over 2,000 friends and nearly 1,000 followers, but his most recent update was on 3 May 2020.
Nirav doesn’t have a TikTok account, but many videos featuring him have been uploaded by other users onto the network, and these have been viewed nearly seven million times.

Love life and wife
Nirav hasn’t shared many details about his love life with the public, but it’s still known that he’s today a married man. He’s been married to an American of Indian descent, Megha Tolia for around 10 years now, but neither has shared the exact date of their wedding; it’s only known that they had a traditional Indian ceremony. Megha’s a businesswoman, and is today working at Method Products as vice president of strategy and ecommerce.
Megha and Nirav have three sons together, but they’re keeping their boys away from media.
Nirav hasn’t mentioned the women whom he dated prior to meeting Megha, to whom he’s married as of October 2022, and they have three sons.
Interesting facts and hobbies
Nirav’s a philanthropist, and has donated money to many charity organizations; it was because of this that the judge sentenced him to do community work when he was accused of a hit-and-run, rather than to spend time in jail.
He loves to travel with his wife, and his favorite countries to travel around are France and Italy.
He likes to play soccer, especially with his sons.
Nirav’s sons are interested in many things, and Nirav’s Instagram account features them playing the piano, skateboarding and playing soccer.
His favorite actors are Joaquin Phoenix and Hugh Jackman, and some of his favorite movies include “Joker”, “Gladiator” and “The Greatest Showman”.
Problems with the authorities
Back in May 2014, Nirav was involved in a hit-and-run when he suddenly switched lanes on Highway 101 in Brisbane, California; this led to a woman losing control of her car, which then began spinning on the street. The woman was left with hand and neck injuries, while Nirav simply continued driving his car without even calling 911.
He later revealed that he didn’t realize that the woman’s car was spinning, nor that he had caused it to happen; Nirav was sentenced to do a month of community work, as well as to pay $239.

Nirav is either 48 or 49 years old. His eyes are brown, he has short black hair, weighs around 170lbs (78kgs), and is 5ft 9ins (1.75m) tall.
