Who is Nick Gehlfuss?

Nicholas Alan ‘Nick’ Gehlfuss was born in Cleveland, Ohio USA, on 21 January 1985 – his zodiac sign is Aquarius, and he holds American nationality. He’s an actor with close to 30 credits to his name, probably known best for his portrayal of the lead character Dr. Will Halstead in the popular drama series “Chicago Med”, created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and which today also stars Marlyne Barrett and S. Epatha Merkerson. It follows both private and professional lives of several doctors and nurses, the series has been airing since 2015, and has won four of the eight awards for which it’s been nominated.

Early life and education

Nick was raised in Ohio by his parents Alan and Sandra Gehlfuss, about whom not a lot is known because he respects their privacy; it’s believed that his mother was a high school teacher, and his father a doctor. Because he hasn’t spoken of having any siblings, most of Nick’s fans believe that he’s an only child.

He grew up as a highly active boy, as he was interested in numerous activities, including playing various sports, dancing, and acting with his school drama club. Nick’s debut film role was his voicing of Martinson Radio in the 2009 family drama “Sam Steele and the Junior Detective Agency”. He gained recognition in 2013, when cast to play Mitch in the popular romantic comedy drama “In Lieu of Flowers”. It was written and directed by William Savage, starred Josh Pence, Spencer Grammer and Nate Corddry, and follows the friendship between two people, as it gradually turns into love.

Nick’s also known for his portrayal of Bruce Johnston in the 2014 biographical musical drama “Love & Mercy”, directed by Bill Pohlad, and which starred John Cusack, Paul Dano and Elizabeth Banks. Between 2015 and 2020, he played the supporting character Will Halstead in the hit action crime drama “Chicago P. D.”, created by Michael Brandt and Derek Haas, and which today stars Jason Beghe, Jesse Lee Soffer and Patrick John Flueger. It follows various people employed in Chicago Police Department’s District 21, the series has been airing since 2014 and has won four of the 10 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Other credits

Nick could’ve been seen appearing in a couple of TV specials and documentaries, including the 2018 episode “48 Hours in Chicago” of the documentary series “Dash”, and the 2020 “A One-Time Special”.

Nick prefers to keep the details of his love life away from the media’s attention, but he can’t hide the fact that he’s today a married man. He exchanged vows with American hotel marketer Lilian Matsuda on 13 May 2016, in a small ceremony attended by around 50 of their closest friends and family members. Neither’s spoken about the circumstances under which they met, but it’s believed that they were set up on a blind date by a mutual friend in 2014.

Nick and Lilian don’t have children together, and this is widely believed to be because they both want to focus on their careers.
