Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born on the 20th August 1946 in Sidlaghatta, Kolar District, Karnataka Indi, and is best known as a co-founder of Infosys, a business consulting corporation, where he served as its CEO from 1981 until 2001, and was also its chairman from 2002 to 2011. From 2002 until 2011 Murhty was the chairman of the company, and in 2011 he decided to retire, after which he earned the Emeritus Chairman title. Thanks to his successful career, Narayana Murthy has earned numerous prestigious honours and accolades; in 2000 he was given the Padma Shri award by the Indian Government, in 2007 the IEEE Ernst Weber Engineering Leadership Recognition, and the same year, he was named Commander Of The Order OF The British Empire(CBE) for services to Indian industry. Furthermore, Murthy was named an Officer of Legion Of Honor in 2008 by the French Government, and the same year he was given the Padma Vibhushan award by the Indian Government.

In addition, he was named the Philanthropist of the Year in 2013, and the same year he received the Sayaji Ratna Award, and was named as one of the 12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time by Fortune magazine.

When it comes to his personal life, Murthy has been married to Sudha since 1978, and with whom he has two children. His wife is a receiver of the gold medal from the Indian Institute of Engineers. She holds the M.E in Computer Science. She has also been dedicated to philanthropy through the Infosys Foundation. Their son, Rohan is a student at the Harvard University, and for a short time joined Murthy as an executive assistant, but left in 2014.
