Who is Michael S. Schmidt?

American journalist and author Michael S. Schmidt was born in Nyack, New York State USA, on 23 September 1983, making Libra his zodiac sign. He’s currently working in Washington D. C. as a correspondent for “The New York Times”, and is perhaps known best for his coverage of federal law enforcement and national security, while he’s won two Pulitzer prizes for his work.

Education and early life

Michael was raised by his Jewish parents James and Rachel Schmidt in Nyack; his father’s a successful wealth manager, and his mother a housewife. Because Michael’s yet to speak of having siblings, most of his fans believe that he has none.

He studied at John Randolph Tucker High School, and was into a number of activities during his time there, while he was mostly focused on playing basketball and practicing creative writing. Michael matriculated in 2002 as one of the best students at the school, and then enrolled at Lafayette College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international affairs in 2005.

During his time at Lafayette, Michael and his classmate Erin Koen founded and edited their own newspaper – “Marooned”.

Michael launched his career in 2004, when he began working at the daily newspaper “The Boston Globe”, and the following year saw him join “The Times” as a clerk; he was promoted to staff reporter in December 2007, and was mostly into covering drug issues in sports. In 2009, he revealed that players Sammy Sosa, Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz were in 2003 amongst the 100 athletes who tested positive to drugs.

Michael reported on baseball agent Scott Boras in 2010, revealing that he had loaned a young prospect thousands of dollars.

He travelled to Iraq in 2011 and reported for “The Times”; Michael found classified documents in a junkyard, which were about the 2005 Haditha Massacre, in which the Marines killed 26 civilians.

He covered the arrest of soccer FIFA executives in Switzerland in May 2015.

Michael and American journalists Matt Apuzzo and Julia Preston together criticized the US government in December 2015, for the lack of crucial evidence in the case of Tashfeen Malik’s visa vetting process; the report came after Tashfeen committed a terrorist act on 2 December 2015, killing 14 and injuring 22 people in San Bernardino.

In 2017, Michael reported on the alleged connections between the Russians and former US President Donald Trump.

The Hillary Clinton story

The year 2015 saw Michael cover the story of Hillary Clinton, revealing that she only used her personal e-mail account while working as secretary of state; in response, Hillary announced that she would make public all the e-emails that she had sent and received during her time as secretary of state.

Michael was then put in charge of the Hillary Clinton e-mail controversy, and the State Department inspector general revealed in May 2016 that Hillary had violated the record keeping policy of State Department.

James Comey – Donald Trump story

Michael revealed on 16 May 2017 that Donald Trump had ordered the former FBI director James Comey to stop investigating retired US Army Lieutenant General Michael Thomas Flynn, who was suspected to have lied about the connection between Donald and Russian senior diplomat and politician Sergey Ivanovich Kislyak.

After Michael broke the story, the Justice Department ordered former FBI director Robert Mueller to investigate, and this led to The Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election, also known as The Mueller Report, which shows that Russia had interfered in the 2016 US presidential election.

Love life and wife Nicole

Michael’s quite secretive when it comes to speaking about his love life in public, but it’s known that he’s been married to Nicolle Wallace since April 2022; this is Nicole’s second marriage, as she was wed to American businessman and lawyer Mark David Wallace from 2005 through 2019.

Nicole’s 11 years older that Michael, as she was born in Orange Country, California on 4 February 1972, meaning that Aquarius is her zodiac sign. She was raised alongside her three younger siblings in Orinda, San Francisco Bay Area, by their father who was an antiques dealer, and mother who was a teacher. Nicolle graduated from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994, and continued her education at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism, graduating with a Master’s degree in 1996. She was the White House communications director during the presidency of George W. Bush, and is today the anchor of the MSNBC show “Deadline: White House”, while she had previously hosted the ABC talk-show “The View”. Michael’s yet to mention other women whom he’s dated, he’s married to Nicole Wallace as of April 2023, and doesn’t have children.

Michael enjoys being active on Twitter, as he’s able to bring his fans various news every day. He’s tweeted more than 4,000 times since the launch of his account in November 2008, and there are today close to 250,000 people following him on this social media network. He’s also active on Instagram and is followed by a few over 1,000 people, while he’s posted close to 350 pictures and videos; Michael’s made this account private, and only his followers can view his posts.

He’s passionate about travelling, and has been all around the world thanks to his career as a journalist; Michael’s favorite city for vacationing is Athens, Greece although he also likes to visit Paris, France and Barcelona, Spain.
