He started gaining popularity when he auditioned for the fifth season of “America’s Got Talent” in Los Angeles, prior to which he was a performer at Las Vegas casinos. His performance was praised by all judges, and it led him to Vegas Week. He encountered problems there as his performance was over 90 seconds and it nearly got him disqualified. Despite that, he advanced to the quarterfinals in which he performed “Tired of Being Alone”. In the semifinals, he performed “You Can Leave Your Hat On” which he sang apparently despite problems with dehydration. This led him to the finals in which he performed “Let’s Stay Together” without his guitar, and his final performance was “When a Man Loves a Woman” which would lead him to win the competition – during the show, it was shown that Ozzy Osbourne was rooting for him. Thanks to his victory, he won $1 million which increased his net worth significantly. His win would lead him to headline the AGT Tour show, and he also appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” before touring 25 cities.
In 2010, Grimm signed a record deal with Epic Records which led to an album release the following year. He also performed at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade and raised over $1 million during the 37th Annual Candlelight Concert. The following year, he returned to “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” to promote his self-titled album, performing the single “Fallen” which earned popularity thanks to Alicia Keys contribution. The album made its debut in 13th spot on the US Pop Music Charts. He also performed during the Top Ten Show of the sixth season of “America’s Got Talent”, and then went on to open for Stevie Nicks.
Other albums he’s released since then include “Gumbo” and “Grimm”.
For his personal life, it is known that Grimm married Lucie Zolcerova in 2011, proposing to her during a taping of “The Ellen DeGeneres Show”; they were married in Maui, Hawaii. He also cites Lucie as his inspiration for his performance in the finale. Michael used his winnings to build his grandparents a new house.
