Who is Melissa Roxburgh?
When the action-adventure movie “Star Trek Beyond” was premiered in 2016, besides the main characters played by famous actors Chris Pine, Karl Urban and Zachary Quinto, another actor who also caught the eye of the audience was Melissa Roxburgh, who played Ensign Syl, an alien officer on the USS Enterprise in the 2260s.
Melissa has over 20 acting credits to her name, and besides the mentioned role, she is perhaps known best for her performance in “In God I Trust” and “Rita”, while to television series lovers, Melissa is perhaps known best for her roles in “Supernatural” and “Valor”.
Early life and education
Melissa Rashid Roxburgh was born under the zodiac sign of Sagittarius on 10 December 1992, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, thus she holds Canadian nationality, and comes from a family of mixed ethnicity, of Canadian and British descent.
She was raised the second oldest of the four, having two sisters, Ashley and Kristie, and a brother Matt, in their hometown by their father Cam Roxburgh, a Canadian pastor who after moving to Vancouver founded a church, and by her mother Shelly Roxburgh, nee Walpole, a retired British tennis player.
Speaking of Melissa’s educational background, she attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 2010, enrolled at Simon Fraser University, from which she graduated with a BA degree, but then pursued her dream of becoming a successful actress.

Melissa made her acting debut as Rachel in the 2011 popular family comedy “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Rodrick Rules”, also starring Zachary Gordon, Robert Capron and Devon Bostick, followed by her role as Princess in “Big Time Movie” in 2012. She was then seen as Heather Hills in the sequel “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days”, while in the following year, she was cast to play Grace in “Rita”.
In 2014, she was Jeni in the horror movie “Leprechaun: Origins”, directed by Zach Lipovsky, before she made an appearance as Carly in “Sorority Murder” in 2015. and then, in the following year, she starred as Azaria in “Lost Solace”. She followed with her most notable role to date, as Ensign Syl in “Star Trek Beyond”. The movie was nominated for the Oscar for Best Achievement in Make-up and Hairstyling.

Also in 2016, Melissa was seen as Leora Duncan in the short movie “2BR02B: To Be or Naught to Be”, while her next role came two years later, when she portrayed Mya Matheson in the drama “In God I Trust”, also starring Marc Senior, Steven Roberts and John Cassini.
Next, she appeared as Heather in “I Still Believe” in 2020, which was her most recent movie role, but her fans will be happy to hear that Melissa has finished the filming of her two new project,s “Mindcage” and “Blessed Be” which are both set to be released in late 2022.

Melissa made her first television appearance as Blake in the popular action-adventure series “Arrow”, a recurring role in 2012 and 2013 in this superhero-inspired series from DC, created by Greg Berlanti.
Concurrently, she was seen as Violet Duval in “Supernatural” from 2012 until 2014, followed by her role as Talia in an episode of the series “The Tomorrow People” in 2014.

In 2016, she guest-starred as Betty Seaver in “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” also starring Amy Louise Pemberton, Dominic Purcell, and Caity Lotz, followed by her role as Carrie in an episode of the series “Travelers”.
Melissa starred as Thea in the drama series “Valor” from 2017 until 2018, and concurrently she was seen as Michaela Stone in the science-fiction mystery drama “Manifest” from 2018 until 2022, which was her most recent television role.
Love life and relationships
There have been various rumors concerning both Melissa’s love life and her sexual orientation, however, it’s widely known that Melissa was in a relationship with Andrew Jenkins, a Canadian screenwriter, and actor – the two dated back in 2017.
Currently, Melissa is dating J. R. Ramirez, and although there were some rumors that the two are engaged, with others saying that they are secretly married, the truth is that they are dating and seemingly enjoying their relationship as girlfriend and boyfriend.
J. R. Ramirez is a Cuban-American actor, perhaps known best for his roles in “Power”, “Emily Owens M.D.”, “Jessica Jones” and “Manifest”, among others.
Melissa and Ramirez met on the set of “Manifest”, and started dating soon afterwards; apparently they’ve been together since 2019, but publicized their relationship only in the middle of 2020.
