He was later hired by a radio station in Oneonta, New York, but then in 1972 he began working at a radical underground progressive rock station – KWFM-FM in Tucson, Arizona, after which he became a commercial voice-over announcer and freelance producer at Warner Bros. Records.

In the late ’70s, Siegel went on a vacation in Boston, where he learned about an open position at WBCN-FM which he applied for and was hired to host the station’s morning show.
