Early life and education

Matt was born under the zodiac sign of Taurus on 20 May 1977, in Manchester, New Hampshire USA; he holds American nationality, and comes from a family of Ukrainian descent on his father’s side. Although born in Manchester, Matt was raised alongside his older siblings, sister Karen, and two brothers AJ and Mike, in Johnson City, Tennessee by his parents, mother Sandra, a housewife, and father Andrew Czurchy, a professor at the East Tennessee University.

Matt attended Science Hill High School, and upon matriculating in 1995, he enrolled at Charleston College, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science, in 1999 (with honors).

Matt was into tennis from an early age, and during high school he won the Tennessee state prep tennis singles championship, and so earned a tennis scholarship, and then at college, he was the captain of the men’s tennis team, and was The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ranked player in the Southern Conference.

While he was at college, Matt won the Mister College of Charleston pageant in 1998, and after he took one theatre class in college, his professor recognized his talent for acting and encouraged him to change his major to drama, which made Matt re-think his plan to become a lawyer. Matt made his acting debut in 2000, portraying a Teenage Guy in an episode of the series “Freaks and Geeks“, followed by his guest role as Kurt in “Opposite Sex“, before he was cast to play Sean McGrail in “Young Americans”, in the same year.

In 2002, he guest-starred as Skip Hyman in “The Practice”, and as Carl in “7th Heaven”, and then in the following year he was seen as Darin Metcalf in “Jake 2.0”, before he was cast to play Jamie Farrel in “Hack”.
