Margaret Theresa Bradley was born on 14 June 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. She is a producer, writer, singer, comedian and actress, perhaps best known for being a part of the CBS show “The Jeffersons”. She was also part of the spin-off  “Checking In” and the television show “227”. All of her efforts have helped put her net worth to where it is today.

Marla attended Wendell Phillips Academy High School and matriculated in 1949, and then moved to Detroit and attended Peters Business School. After school, she worked for United Airlines as a reservations agent, before moving to Los Angeles to start her acting career. She found work in the Performing Arts Society of Los Angeles where she had numerous productions at the Zodiac Theatre. This was the start to building her net worth.

A few of her first appearances were in the films “Black Belt Jones” and “Sweet Jesus, Preacher Man”. In 1975, she became part of the comedy show “The Jeffersons”, playing the role of the family maid Florence Johnston. During her time on the show she was nominated five times for a Primetime Emmy Award and once for a Golden Globe Award. After “The Jeffersons”, she appeared in the spin-off “Checking In” which was unfortunately short lived.

After 11 seasons of “The Jeffersons”, Gibbs was cast to become the lead for the show “227”, which began in 1990 and would go on and run for 116 episodes. She then appeared in “The First Family” and the independent film “Forbidden Woman”. As her career moved forward, she performed many supporting roles, but also continued to guest star in various series such as “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, “ER”, “Judging Amy” and “Southland”. She appeared as a recurring cast member of “The Hughleys”, and in 2012 became a part of “Madea’s Witness Protection”. One of her most recent appearances was in “Scandal” which starred Shonda Rhimes.

Aside from acting, Marla also had a music career, releasing a number of albums during her youth. She was responsible for singing the theme song for the show “227”. One of her well-known albums is entitled “It’s Never Too Late” which was on the jazz genre. She also owned a jazz club called “Marla’s Memory Lane Jazz and Supper Club”, which ran from 1981 to 1999.

For her personal life, Gibbs married Jordan Gibbs in 1955 but the marriage ended in 1973. They had three children, one of whom is the actress Angela Gibbs who appeared in films such as “Drumline” and “Think Like A Man Too”.
