Born Marisa Maquire Ramirez on 15 September 1977, in Los Angeles, California USA, she holds American nationality although she comes from a family of mixed ethnicity. Her father, Raymond, has Mexican roots, while her mother, Francine, has Scottish, English, Irish, French and Native American heritage. The mentioned family issue was her father’s battle with cancer, which he unfortunately lost.
Marisa’s educational background includes attendance at All Saints Catholic School and Ramona Convent Secondary School. She began her modeling career when she was 13 years old, when discovered by a modeling agency in Los Angeles, and by the age of 15, she was working as a print model, and appearing in numerous commercials. From 2000 until 2002, Marisa reprised her role as Gia Campbell actually in “General Hospital”, playing in 110 episodes of this worldwide popular romantic crime-drama, which began airing back in 1963 – the series has had over 650 award nominations, and won 306. For her performance, Marisa was nominated for the American Latino Media Arts (ALMA) Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama and Soap Opera Digest Award for Outstanding Female Newcomer in 2001, and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a Daytime Drama Series in 2002.
In 2003, Marisa was seen as Evelyn Santos, playing her first lead role in “Miracles”, also starring Skeet Ulrich and Angus Macfadyen. Marisa made her big-screen debut in the 2005 thriller horror “All Souls Day: Dia de Los Muertos” and in a lead female role opposite Travis Wester. Two years later, she was seen as Ellen in “Itty Bitty Titty Committee” a comedy-drama about a high school girl who finds her purpose after joining a group of feminists. The movie won Tampa International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival Audience Award for Best Lesbian Feature.
