Linda Louise Eastman was born on 24th September 1941, in Scarsdale, New York State USA, and was a photographer, singer and musician. However, she was best known as the wife of Paul McCartney from 1969 until her death in 1998, the mother of three of his children and a member of his group Wings.

To begin with, the girl grew up in a prosperous Jewish family based in New York. Her father, Lee Eastman, ran a law firm with his brother; their customers came primarily from the music scene and the visual arts. The maternal family owned several department stores there. After high school and her mother’s death, Linda Eastman moved to Arizona, where she started studying art and history, but dropped out. Through a friend, her interest in photography was aroused.
At the end of 1965 Linda moved back to New York. At first Eastman worked as a receptionist, then she became a freelance photographer. Soon, Linda turned to be a professional photographer, and specializing in rock, she met a member of the Beatles, Paul McCartney, when photographing the group in 1967.

Moreover, Linda McCartney published several books for cooking vegetarian dishes. She founded a company for vegetarian finished products and vehemently campaigned for animal protection. In 1998, Linda McCartney founded the Linda McCartney Foods Pro Cycling Team, a professional cycling team whose athletes were fed on a vegetarian diet.

Afterwards, Linda McCartney placed aside photography and began to deal with music. So, on 4th January 1970 she contributed to the background of the Beatles song “Let It Be”, and then Paul McCartney’s first, self-titled solo album the same year. On the following McCartney album “Ram” (1971) Linda McCartney was as an equal co-singer and as a co-composer of six of the twelve songs of the album. Together with Paul McCartney, she founded the band Wings in August 1971, in which she played the keyboards, sang and also contributed compositions to the first three albums. After the dissolution of the Wings in April 1981, Linda McCartney served as a guest musician for her husband’s albums until 1997. Between September 1989 and December 1993, she was a member of the live band of Paul McCartney. Linda McCartney’s only solo album – “Wide Prairie” – was released in the end of 1998. The last recordings of the album took place on 20th March 1998. Linda was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1995, and her condition soon worsened as it spread to her liver.

Finally, in the personal life of Linda, she married the geologist John Melvin See Jr. in 1962, and gave birth to her first daughter, Heather, on 31st December 1962, but in 1965 the two divorced. Paul McCartney and Eastman married on 12th March 1969 in London. They have three children, Mary (born in 1969), Stella (born in 1971) and James (born in 1977). Heather, was adopted by Paul McCartney too. Linda McCartney died at the age of 56, on 17th April 1998 at the McCartney family ranch in Tucson, Arizona. She was cremated in Tucson and her ashes were scattered on the McCartney estate in Sussex, England.
