Early life and family
Skyler is the only child from Lil Durk and Tameka Kute’s relationship. The two apparently knew each other for several years before they started dating, however, according to some online sources, the rapper was disloyal to Tameka, and their relationship didn’t last longer than a year. It’s also rumored that he proposed to her shortly before Skyler was born, but the two didn’t end up going through with the wedding. After their separation, Durk and Tameka agreed to co-parent Skyler, so she can share a close bond with both of her parents.

From her father’s side, Skyler has five half-siblings – three brothers and two sisters. Lil Durk fathered his first son, Angelo, when he was only 17 years old, with his then girlfriend, Nicole Covone, and they have another child together, a daughter named Bella, born in 2013. In the following year, Lil Durk became a father to sons Zayden and Du’mier Banks, however, their mothers’ identities have not been publicly revealed. In 2018, he became engaged to his now-wife, India Royale, who gave birth to his third daughter, Willow. On the other hand, it appears that Skyler’s mother, Tameka, hasn’t had more children.

He’s a hip-hop artist, perhaps known best for being a founder and the lead member of the rap collective and record label Only the Family (OTF).
Lil Durk grew up in the Englewood neighborhood in Southside Chicago, notorious for its violence. As a child, he had many responsibilities at home, as his father spent most of the time in prison; he later recalled that there were many times when he didn’t have any food at home. He had an older brother, Dontay, who was murdered in 2021 outside a Chicago nightclub.
Lil Durk started his musical career during his teenage years, making his breakthrough online, on MySpace and YouTube.
After becoming a father at the age of 17, he started taking music more seriously, and formed the hip-hop collective Only the Family in 2010, but his career took a dive as he faced issues with the law – in 2011, he served two months for unauthorized gun use.
After his release from prison, Lil Durk came back to making music, and released two singles “Sneak Dissin’” and “I’ma Hitta”, which both received positive feedback from his fans. In October 2012, he released his mixtape, “Life Ain’t No Joke”, which featured the hit song “L’s Anthem”, later re-released to include a feature from French Montana.
Due to the single’s popularity, in 2013 Lil Durk signed a joint deal with OTF and Def Jam Recordings.
This helped him attract a wider audience, and in 2014, the music magazine “XXL” included him in their annual Freshman Class list, which names 10 of the most promising upcoming artists on the hip-hop scene. On 2 June 2015, Lil Durk released his debut album “Remember My Name”, which reached the #14 spot on the US album charts.
In July 2016, the rapper released his follow-up album “Lil Durk 2X”, which featured collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign and Yo Gotti, but the album sadly didn’t match the level of commercial success of “Remember My Name”. In 2018, Lil Durk departed from Def Jam Recordings, and released the mixtape “Just Cause Y’all Waited” as a free agent before signing a deal with Alamo Records, through which he released his third studio album “Signed to the Streets 3”.
Lil Durk’s major breakthrough came in the following year, when his album “Love Songs 4 the Streets 2” reached the #4 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. His next album, “Just Cause Y’all Waited 2”, released in 2020, was an even bigger success, peaking at #2 on the Billboard chart. In the same year, he was featured on the Canadian rapper Drake’s hit single “Laugh Now Cry Later”, and also appeared in the music video. They received two Grammy nominations for the song, in the Best Melodic Rap Performance and Best Rap Song categories.
In December 2020, Lil Durk released the long-awaited album “Voice”, which he dedicated to his late friend and fellow Chicago-based rapper, King Von. The album featured a viral single about Kanye West, entitled “Kanye Krazy”, which attracted the legendary rapper’s attention, and he invited Lil Durk for a feature on his upcoming tenth studio album, “Donda”.
Lil Durk’s most recent project is his collaborative album with Lil Baby, entitled “The Voice of the Heroes”, released on 4 June 2021. The album contains guest appearances from several big hip-hop names, including Young Thug, Meek Mill and Rod Wave, and debuted at #1 spot on the Billboard 200 chart. It received favorable reviews from the critics, with many praising the chemistry between Lil Durk and Lil Baby.
In his music, Lil Durk often talks about the prevalent issues of gang violence he experienced growing up, shedding light on the hardships of the African-American communities in Chicago.
‘Some people look at me like, ‘He’s about violence.’ But if you hear the album, ‘Oh, that’s why he’s here. He’s going through this or that.’ I want to paint that picture that people don’t see.’, the rapper said in the interview he gave for the “Chicago Tribune”.
Lil Durk married the entrepreneur and social media star, India Royale in 2020. The two reside in Chicago with their daughter, Willow, and have recently revealed that they’re planning to have at least two more children together.
In June 2021, Lil Durk revealed that he has converted to Islam.
