McCoy attended Bishop McDevitt High School and was given the nickname “Shady” by his mother, which he would eventually use in football. With great performances in school he earned various awards and was set to go to college at Miami. However, a broken ankle coupled with academic issues sent him to Milford Academy for a year. Eventually, LeSean committed to the University of Pittsburgh in 2007, where he was assigned as back-up running back and would soon showcase his skills on the field. In the following year, he became one of in the top running backs in college football and helped the team to the top 25. After losing at the 2008 Sun Bowl, he originally committed to coming back to Pittsburgh for his junior year, but then decided that he wanted to go pro.

He was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2009 NFL Draft, and was then signed to a four-year contract worth $3.47 million which was a significant start to his net worth. In his rookie year, he became a starter of the team because of an injury incurred by Brian Westbrook. He was given an opportunity to showcase his skills and broke the all-time Eagles rookie rushing record, leading McCoy to become one of the top rookies of the league. The following season, he became the starting running back and impressed a lot of the coaching staff; the Eagles would go and win the NFC East Division but then lost to the Green Bay Packers in the play-offs. The following season, he had a bit of difficulty because of an injury, but soon bounced back, breaking more records and eventually earning his first team All-Pro. In 2012, he was given a $45 million five-year contract extension, however, he suffered a concussion later in the season which led him to miss four games. The following year, he recovered from his injury, and was able to perform even better, running up a total of 1,607 yards in the season. He continued to impress the following year but was then traded in the 2015 season to the Buffalo Bills, where he signed a five-year contract worth $40 million. McCoy started out slowly because of an injury but after his recuperation, he began to showcase his speed once more.

He’s also had a few issues, one in which he was sued for $50,000 in damages for allegedly humiliating a few women in a party bus, later disproved, but the following year, McCoy received criticism for being disrespectful at a PYT burger restaurant.
