Larry Hughes was brought up with his younger brother by a single mother. He began playing basketball while attending Christian Brothers College High School, in which Larry excelled in it, as he won the Missouri state championship in 1997, and in the same year was named a McDonalds All American. Upon matriculation, he enrolled at St. Louis University College, where he continued playing but for only one semester; while there, he led the college team to the NCAA tournament, and thanks to that, he was named the National Freshman of the Year.

Larry’s professional playing career began as early as 1998, when he was selected as the 8th overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA Draft – this marked the beginning of an increase to his net worth. He stayed in Philadelphia until 2000, when he was traded to the Golden State Warriors. In his first season as a 76er, he played in 50 games and had a 10.0 points average, repeating the same numbers in his second season.

He played for the Warriors until 2002; in his first season he played in 32 games and averaged 22.7 points per game, which was quite an increase from only 10.0 points per game in Philadelphia. After his stint in Oakland ended, he became a part of the Washington Wizards, where he played until 2005. While with Washington, he had one season in which he averaged 22.0 points and 2.9 steals per game. He became a free agent in 2005, and signed a contract worth $70 million over five years with the Cleveland Cavaliers, which only increased his net worth. For Cleveland, his numbers dropped to around 15 points and 1.5 steals per game, which eventually resulted in him being traded to the Chicago Bulls in 2008.

After that, he didn’t play in any team longer than two seasons, switching jerseys between NBA teams the New York Knicks, Charlotte Bobcats, and Orlando Magic in 2012, playing only in nine games before he was waived by the team, which sent him into retirement.

During his career, he received several recognitions, including selection in the NBA All-Defensive First Team in 2005, and the same year, he was named as the NBA steals leader.

If to talk about his personal life, Larry Hughes is married to Carrie Hughes, with whom he has three children. He also has a child with Sundy Carter, a reality TV personality. In his spare time, he is very active as a philanthropist, and he established the Larry Hughes Basketball Camp, the Larry Hughes Family Foundation, and Random Acts of Kindness.
