Both actors experienced tough early years – Key was adopted by Michael Key and Patricia Walsh, but later found his biological mother, Carrie Herr, and also that he had two half-brothers, but unfortunately both were already dead – one of them was the comic-book writer, Dwayne McDuffie. After he finished high school, Keegan-Michael enrolled at the University of Detroit Mercy, from which he earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theater, and then obtained a Master of Fine Arts degree in theater from Pennsylvania State University.

On the other hand, Jordan Peele was raised by a single mother, and after high school attended Sarah Lawrence College, but after two years dropped out of studies in order to focus on his career as a comedian and actor.

Key and Peel met while being auditioned for additions to the cast for the MAD TV series; cast against each other, there was a place only for one of them, but they amazed the producers and casting directors so much, that both of them were added to the show. Their collaboration started in 2011, then on the 31st January 2012 the series premiered on Comedy Central. Based on sketches which the two of them create, the show has propelled them to stardom, and along the way the 53 episodes launched careers of several other actors, while also reviving careers of others. Some of the actors and other celebrities that have also appeared in the show include Justin Hires, Charlie Sanders, Bill Seward, Rob Delaney, Nyima Funk, Ron Artest, Brendan Hunt, Larry Joe Campbell and Jordan Black, among others, that also helped increase the show’s popularity. With popular success came a rise in net worth, mirrored in the wealth that the actors built over the years of the series’ existence.

As it was a comedy sketch program, the two actors created a number of characters, while also doing impressions of others, some more popular than others, including Wendell Sanders played by Peele, then an impression of the 44th President of the USA, Barack Obama, also by Peele, then DeVOn, played by Key, and Brock Favors, also by Key, among many others.

When it comes to the personal lives of these two successful comedians, Key was married to Cynthia Blaise, an actress, from 1998 until 2015, while Peele has been married to Chelsea Peretti since 2016, and the couple has a son together
