Jon Runyan was born on 27 November 1973, in Flint, Michigan USA, and is a politician and retired professional American Football player, but probably best known to have been the US Representative for New Jersey’s 3rd congressional district from 2011 to 2015., having previously played in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons. Runyan joined the 1996 NFL Draft and was selected by the Houston Oilers, 109th in the 4th round. He became a starter during his rookie season, and then moved with the team to Tennessee. In 1999, he along with the newly named Tennessee Titans squad reached Super Bowl XXXIV. Afterwards, he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, and was given a six-year $30 million contract which increased his net worth significantly, so becoming the highest paid offensive lineman in NFL history during the time. He sponsored 15 pieces of legislation during his tenure, and supported the payroll tax cut, balanced budget amendment, and defunding of National Public Radio. He was also the sponsor to pass the amendment to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Act of 2014. He worked on several committees including the House Armed Services Committee and the House Committee on Veterans Affairs. Two years after ending his political run, he then started working with NFL as their Vice President of Policy and Rules administration.
