Jerry’s mother was Italian, and his father Jewish, but other details of his early life are lacking.. He made his debut in the world of entertainment in the early ‘50s appearing with Bob Horn and Lee Stewart on “Bandstand”, aired through WFIL-TV. Just three years later Jerry was a manager of a national tour for Danny and the Juniors, while through 1958 and 1959 worked as a valet for Don Rickles. The following year his career on the radio began and since then he has become one of the most famous disk jockeys of all time. During the ’60 he had his own show which was syndicated in Camden, Trenton, Wilmington, Atlantic City, Allentown and Pottswon. He moved forward during the ‘60s since he was also a part owner of the Lost Nite and Crimson record labels. Furthermore, he was one of the owners of the now defunct record store chain Record Museum, with Jared Weinstein and Jerry Greene. Jerry also worked on television, hosting the weekly show “The Discophic Scene” (1965-1967), calling himself “the Geator with the Heater”, and also “the big-time boss with the big hot sauce”. Throughout his career, he also appeared in many variety shows, including “The Tonight Show” and “The Joey Bishop Show”, while also showing his acting talents in such productions as “Desperately Seeking Susan” (1985), and “Cookie” (1989), among others.

His radio show is still active and airs seven days a week, and since 1972 he owns and runs a night club called Memories. Most recently he became DJ for oldies radio station WVLT, WXPN, WTKU-FM and WBCB, among others, having been producing oldies concerts at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia since 2002.

Regarding his personal life, Jerry has four children; he separated from his wife in 1976 and since 1989 has been in a romantic relationship with another woman, however, both names remain elusive.

In the early ‘80s he was at a dinner with Greek mob boss Chelsais Bouras, who was shot dead at the table. During the investigation of Bouras’ death, it was discovered that Jerry had connection with Bruno-Scarfo crime family, however while Blavat was in interrogation, he pleaded the fifth amendment – right to remain silent – and negated any wrongdoings.
