Jenny grew up in New Orleans the youngest of six children; her father worked as a boat captain, and her mother grew vegetables and sold them to feed the children. Jenny attended the Southwestern Business School, and after graduation found a job at a dentist’s surgery, working as an hygienist. However, that didn`t last long, as she married and gave birth to two children. Unfortunately, she gained weight in her second pregnancy, which forced her to go on a strict and lengthy diet.
The results were quite visible, and this encouraged her to start formulating her own diets, and she found a job at a health club in the New Orleans area. Her future husband, Sidney Craig bought the Body Contour fitness club, and looked to expand in New Orleans, and so the two became business partners. In no time, their relationship became romantic, and they wed in 1979.
Four years later, the two started Jenny Craig Inc. with a first location in Australia, however, little by little, they expanded abroad, in USA and Canada as well. Nowadays, they have more than 700 weight management centers in Australia, the USA and Canada, which since the early 1980s has been the main source of Jenny`s net worth.
In 1995, Jenny and Sidney bought a horse ranch and started breeding race horses, and their success also increased Jenny`s net worth. Their most notable horse is Candy Ride, which won six races consecutively, included Grade I Pacific Classic Stakes, and also set a new record for the Del Mar track of one and a quarter miles. Another horse, Sidney`s Candy won the 2010 Kentucky Derby.

In the past, Jenny head health issues; in 1995 she experienced a lockjaw, but it wasn`t in its full state, as she managed to open her mouth. However, her condition began to worsen, and she was diagnosed with temporomandibular joint syndrome. She was sent to specialist, and after a team of 18 doctors, no one could determine what seemed to be the problem. Anyway, thanks to a surgery performed by Dr. Dennis M. Nigro, she managed to recover. He installed bioabsorbable screws into her cheeks. After a year of speech therapy she was fully recovered.
Her husband Sidney died in 2008.
