Soon after graduation, Jennifer found a job at the US Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, as a clerk for Judge Damon Keith. However, that engagement lasted only a year, as she took a job working for Michael Dukakis’ campaign for President in 1988. After that, she worked as an attorney in the Wayne County executive office for two years, and then in 1991 assumed the position of Assistant US Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan. Four years later she took a step forward, becoming the youngest Corporation Counsel for Wayne County.

Jennifer didn’t stop there, as in 1999 she was elected as the 51st Attorney General of Michigan, defeating Republican John Smietanka. She served only one turn, not because she wasn’t re-elected, but because she became the 47th Governor of the state in 2003, beating the Republican candidate Dick Posthumus with 51.42% of the vote. She served as Governor until 2011, the limit set in the state. Meantime, in 2008 she was a part of the presidential transition team for Barack Obama, and joined his economic advisory team.

After her second term ended as a Governor of Michigan, Jennifer became the Distinguished Adjunct Professor of Law and Public Policy at the UC, Berkeley Goldman School of Public Policy, and UC, Berkeley School of Law. She also holds a position in several other educational institutions, such as Senior Research Fellow at the Berkeley Energy and Climate Institute (BECI) Faculty and Project Scientist at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory.

To speak of her career on television, she worked for NBC in the show “Meet the Press”, and has hosted her own show “The War Room with Jennifer Granholm” on Current TV.
