Jay Cutler spent his early years on a family farm nearby Sterling in Massachusetts, where he was raised by his father, whose name is unknown, and his mother, Ann Cutler; his parents are now divorced. He has six siblings, three brothers, and three sisters named Kelly Coughlin, Joyce Cutler and Ann Fleming; it’s only known that one of his brothers is named Keith Cutler. Jay holds American nationality, belongs to White Caucasian ethnic group, and is a Christian.

He made his debut appearance as a contestant at the 1992 Gold’s Gym Worcester Bodybuilding Championships, in which he ranked second. He took his first victory at the National Physique Committee (NPC) Iron Bodies Invitational – Teenage & Men’s Heavyweight in the following year. He then won the 1993 NPC Teen Nationals – Heavyweight, and the 1995 NPC U.S. Tournament of Champions – Men’s Heavyweight and Overall. Five years later, he took victory at the International Federation of BodyBuilding and Fitness (IFBB) Night Of Champions.

Rise to Prominence

Jay Cutler quickly made a name for himself in the bodybuilding community, so he frequently made appearances in various bodybuilding videos.

One of those is the pre-contest documentary video “Battle For The Olympia 2001”, which was directed by Mitsuru Okabe, and follows the preparation of competitors for the 2001 Mr. Olympia Competition. During the competition, he tested positive for banned diuretics, but somehow still placed second. He then competed at the IFBB Arnold Sports Festival – also known as Arnold Schwarzenegger Sports Festival – and won three competitive titles in 2002, ‘03 and ‘04.

He actually won four more titles in 2003 – Ironman Pro Invitational, San Francisco Pro Invitational, British Grand Prix, and Dutch Grand Prix which he again won in 2006.

Also that year, Jay was the winner of the Austrian Grand Prix and Romanian Grand Prix, and won two consecutive Mr. Olympia titles in 2006 and 2007. Two years later, he defeated Dexter Jackson and won his third Mr. Olympia title, which led him to become the third Mr. Olympia in history to win the title in non-consecutive years, after Arnold Schwarzenegger and Franco Columbu. His fourth Mr. Olympia title came in 2010, when he defeated Phil Heath.

Jay continued to compete at Mr. Olympia competitions over the following years, but didn’t achieve much success; his last appearance was in 2013 when he placed sixth. After two decades of successful accomplishments, Jay retire from competing.
