Gedrick matriculated from Gordon Technical High School to attend Drake University, in Des Moines, Iowa. He stayed for only a year, mainly to appease his parents, spending this time working toward a degree in Business. He left, deciding instead to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. At this time, Gedroic took the stage name Jason Gedrick, pronounced the same as Gedroic, but much easier to read.

Gedrick began his career as a teenager, appearing as an extra in features, before landing his first credited on-screen role in 1984 with the film “Massive Retaliation”. This was followed by 1985’s “The Zoo Gang”, a British six-part series starring John Mills. It was in 1986 that he rose to a higher level of public recognition, in “Iron Eagle”, as the character of Doug Masters. Before getting the part, he was required to audition no less than six times. The most financially successful film in which he has appeared, was 2001’s “Summer Catch”, starring Freddie Prinze, Jr, which generated a profit of $20 million. His work on the big screen has contributed greatly to his wealth.

Gedrick’s television work has been more extensive than in his movies, and he has earned a bit of a reputation for appearing in short-lived shows which have been cancelled, including but not limited to, “Luck”, “Lincoln Heights”, and “Windfall”. Gedrick described himself as “the court jester of critically acclaimed cancelled TV series”. He also suffered the misfortune of being cast in 1995’s “Murder One”, only to be removed from the cast and replaced after the show garnered very low ratings.

Gedrick’s next few shows performed similarly poorly. He had more success in a guest spot as an attractive car wash attendant on “Ally McBeal”, and as a love interest for two seasons of “Desperate Housewives”. In 2003, he played real-life rapist Andrew Luster, great grandson of cosmetics manufacturer Max Factor, in a made-for-TV Lifetime movie. He appeared in the Amazon original series “Bosch” as a serial Killer, to much critical acclaim. Gedrick currently stars in the popular crime drama “Major Crimes” as Detective Mark Hickman.

In addition to his screen work, Gedrick has also appeared on stage. He made his Broadway debut in 1989, starring alongside Don Ameche and Helen Hunt in “Our Town”.

In his personal life, Gedrick was married between 1989 and 1997 to Dana Lavas; they had three children together. According to reports dating back to 2015, he has not dated too extensively since his divorce from Lavas, or has kept his relationships extremely private. His parents divorced when he was a child, with his two siblings going to live with his father whilst he stayed with his mother. He is dyslexic, but in his spare time still participates in sports including basketball and golf.
