When Karli and Brandi were born, their father was still struggling financially, as his comedy career hadn’t yet taken off. they were homeless for almost three years in the late 1980s, however, their struggles ended in 1993, when Steve made his TV breakthrough as the host of “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”, and the family then moved to New York City. Apparently due to Steve’s infidelity, he and Marcia separated and finalized their divorce in 1995 – Marcia received full custody of Karli and her two siblings.
Following the divorce, Marcia and her children moved back to Cleveland. Karli matriculated from a local high school in 2000, and in 2004 graduated from Ohio State University with a degree in Business.

Karli now works as an insurance agent for the Atlanta, Georgia-based Allstate Agency. Since 26 September 2015, Karli has been married to the businessman and motivational speaker Benjamin Raymond. The two met in 2013, and started dating shortly afterwards. Their wedding reception attracted a lot of media’s attention, as Karlie was walked to the altar by her father.
Benjamin is a graduate of the University of Minnesota, and a former captain of their basketball team. He worked as a corporate executive for several years, before he became a developmental coach and a motivational speaker. Benjamin is also the owner of a successful insurance company based in Dallas, Texas, and runs a non-profit organization focused on providing help for children in the foster care system.
Growing up, he faced a lot of hardship in his family life, and often witnessed his parents being violent to each other, so at 13 years of age, Benjamin put himself in foster care to escape from his home life. Steve spent most of his formative years in Cleveland, Ohio, alongside his parents and siblings.
He studied at Kent State University, but dropped out before graduating and returned to Cleveland, where he held various odd jobs, primarily in sales. In 1988, he won his first stand-up comedy contest at a local night club, which made him reconsider his career choice, and try to make a breakthrough in the entertainment industry. He spent the next few years on the road, performing stand-up in clubs across the US.
In 1993, he became the host of the TV show “It’s Showtime at the Apollo”, which he hosted until 2000.
