Childhood, early career

Simon Halls was born under the Zodiac sign of Capricorn on 12 January 1964, in Toronto, Ontario Canada. He has been very private in terms of his upbringing, parents and any siblings. After matriculating from Crescent High School in Toronto, Halls graduated from the University of Southern California with a Public Relations degree, which served as a stepping stone for a highly-decorated career as a publicist and a Public Relations tycoon.

His first job took him to Moscow, Russia, where he served as a PR Manager for the newly-established McDonalds franchise in the post-communist country. During this early period of his career, he gained further experience by working at several Russian-based PR firms simultaneously, before returning to the US for his big career splash.

A bright career

After returning to the US in the early 1990s, Simon decided to channel his gained public relations experience into the entertainment business. He saw clearly that the best way to do this was to establish himself in Hollywood and represent people in the “big screen” business. According to Halls: ‘If you live in LA, it’s a one industry town, so if you want to succeed on a broad level, it seems like the best way to do that is to be part of the entertainment industry.’

To do this, he founded his first company: BWR PR. After gaining further experience by working with actors and understanding the underbelly of the Hollywood arena, Simon partnered with other Public Relations experts operating in the entertainment industry, to found Huvane Baum Halls, a company in which he served as CEO until 2001. During this time he managed public outings and communications campaigns for the likes of world-class producers and actors such as the Coen Brothers and Jude Law.

In 2001 the firm merged with the larger public relations company, PMK, where he worked for a further nine years, from 2007 as co-CEO of the firm.

The company boasted of a massive $15 million yearly revenue, managing promotional campaigns for some of the biggest movies of the time, including “Gladiator”, “American Beauty”, “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon” and “Brokeback Mountain”.

At the turn of the decade, Simon Halls got his next big break, when he created Slate PR. The company has currently turned into one of the household names of American Public Relations, managing actors and producers such as  Sam Mendes and Ridley Scott, who have amassed a total of 500+ Emmy Awards and 54 Academy Awards. Simon’s most recent projects include working for Ryan Murphy’s movie “The Prom”, which features the likes of Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and James Corden. Another recent project he worked on in 2021 is “House of Gucci”, produced by Ridley Scott.

While having a very busy schedule, Halls and his family always try to find some time to visit his home country of Canada. Nevertheless, he has admitted that COVID-19 travel policies have thwarted his recent plans to travel anywhere.

Simon Halls came out as gay relatively early – in his youth he experimented with heterosexual relationships. He’s married to famous actor Matt Bomer; the couple met in 2008, after Halls was contracted to be Matt’s PR manager and publicist as part of PMK.

The couple has adopted three children: Kit, born in 2005, and twins Henry and Walker born in 2008. They’ve revealed that Kit came out as straight at the age of 14; both respect his situation.
