Who is Anna Jay?

American professional wrestler Anna Marie Jernigan was born in Brunswick, Georgia USA, on 15 July 1998, making Cancer her zodiac sign. She’s currently signed to All Elite Wrestling (AEW), while she attracted a lot of attention when she suffered a serious shoulder injury in February 2021; Anna was to compete in the AEW Women’s World Championship Tournament but had to undergo shoulder surgery, which then took her eight months to recover from.

Education and early life

Anna was raised alongside her younger brother Deke Jernigan and older brother Roby Handy Jernigan in Brunswick, by their mother Carla Herrin and father Handy Jernigan; not a lot has been disclosed about Anna’s parents, as they prefer to maintain their privacy, but it’s known that they were both wrestlers in their 20s, and that Carla’s today a real estate agent working for Signature Properties Group Incorporation.

Anna studied at Glynn Middle School in Brunswick and became interested in sports during her four years there; she practiced gymnastics, ran track and played volleyball, and was 17 when she began going to the gym. She matriculated in 2016 and then enrolled at Glynn Academy, eventually transferring to College of Coastal Georgia from which she graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 2020.

Career as a wrestler

It was in July 2018 that Anna began preparing for her career as a wrestler at One Fall Power Factory, and suffered her first shoulder injury while exercising in April 2019; she had to undergo surgery, and spent five months recovering.

Her wrestling debut was at the charity event The Battle of Altama on 14 September 2019, then in January 2020, Anna faced and defeated Thunder Blonde at a Georgia Premier Wrestling’s hair vs. hair match.

She signed a contract with AEW in March 2020 and made her debut on 1 April 2020, when she appeared in an episode of the show “Dynamite” and lost to Hikaru Shida. On 17 June 2020, Anna lost to Abadon in another episode of “Dynamite”, but was offered help by the professional wrestling stable The Dark Order, thus joining them. She and Brazilian professional wrestler and judoka Taynara Melo Guevara teamed up for the AEW Women’s Tag Team Cup Tournament, they defeated Ariane Andrew and Nyla Rose in the quarter-finals but then lost to Diamante and Ivelisse in the semi-finals.

Anna faced and lost to AEW Women’s World Champion Shida on 25 November 2020, in another episode of “Dynamite”, while she and Conti teamed up on 30 December and defeated Penelope Ford and Britt Baker.

As she then suffered the above mentioned shoulder injury, Anna’s following wrestling match was on 1 September 2021, when she saved Conti from an attack by The Bunny and Ford; she entered the TBS Women’s Championship Tournament in November, but lost the first fight against Jamie Hayter. On 31 December, Anna and Conti faced and defeated The Bunny and Ford in a street fight.

On 21 January 2022, Anna challenged and lost to AEW TBS Champion Jade Cargill, while she lost again against Jade on 29 May. On 20 July at the Fyter Fest, Anna attacked American professional wrestler Dori Elizabeth Prange aka Ruby Soho, thus joining the Jericho Appreciation Society, defeating Ruby at the Fight for the Fallen, choking her with her own arm brace.

Following her win against Ruby, Anna began using Anna Jay A. S. as her new ring name, and she and Melo went on to defeat Willow Nightingale and Soho on 28 December 2022, in a tag team match; Willow and Soho then defeated Anna and Melo on 11 January 2023.

Presence on the internet

Anna’s highly popular on Instagram, and is followed by close to 300,000 people on the social media network, while she’s uploaded over 450 pictures and videos; most of these feature her wrestling, while others show her during her everyday life.

Anna’s tweeted close to 6,000 times since she launched her Twitter account in November 2013, and she’s today followed by over 230,000 people; most of her tweets are the same content that can be found uploaded onto her Instagram account.

She has 182 friends on Facebook, and only uses the account to stay in touch with her friends and family members.

Anna’s only recently launched her TikTok account, which is why she’s only followed by just over 1,200 people.

Love life and relationships

Anna had kept the details of her love life hidden from the media’s attention until 28 June 2021, when both she and American professional wrestler Jack Perry – aka Jungle Boy – revealed that they were in a relationship.

The two had already known each other for a couple of months prior to going on their first date, and Jungle Boy’s also today signed to AEW, while he was once an AEW World Tag Team Champion, together with Luchasaurus. He’s one year Anna’s senior, has been active with AEW since 2019, and has recently defeated Cage at the AEW Revolution 2023.

Anna’s yet to speak of other men whom she’s maybe been with, she’s in a relationship with Jack Perry as of March 2023, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Anna works out at the gym every day, while she also takes karate and boxing lessons.

She’s also done modelling work, but considers it a hobby rather than a job.
