Born in 1924 into “Omoro”, an ethnic group of Ethiopia, Girma was elected twice as the president of his nation and served from 2001 to 2013 as the head of the nation. Girma served in various positions, including speaker of the parliament, and was elected as the president of Ethiopia in 2001 by unanimous votes from the parliament. He was the second president of the country after it became the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia in 1995. As he served his six years term as a president in 2007, he was re-elected in October, 2007, and served a further six years as president of his nation before his time of service ended at 7 October 2013.
