Who is Eugenia Cooney?

Eugenia Cooney was born in Massachusetts, USA, on 27 July 1994 – her zodiac sign is Leo, and she holds American nationality. She’s a YouTuber and a social media star, perhaps known best for making vlog and lifestyle-related videos.

Early life, family and education

Eugenia grew up in Connecticut alongside her brothers Chip and Joshua – their parents’ identities are not publicly known. Through her childhood and teenage years, Eugenia was often the victim of bullying at school, which made her switch schools multiple times. For her last three years of high school, she was actually homeschooled.

During this time, Eugenia found solace in online networks, on which she could communicate with like-minded people, and she eventually started her YouTube channel.

After matriculating in 2013, she moved to New York City, where she started working as a model. However, her career didn’t last long, as she was asked by her agents to remove her online presence, which she refused, and instead decided to focus on her YouTube career.

YouTube and Twitch channels

Eugenia began her online presence in 2011, when she started doing livestreams on the broadcasting service YouNow. In June that year, she launched her YouTube channel, uploading her first video entitled “Outfits of the Week” in May 2013. Later in the same year, Eugenia became a viral sensation, with her “How to Ratchetly Twerk” video, which has been viewed more than 7.5 million times. It was initially shared on the WorldSTraHipHop website, and was later even covered by some news outlets.

Since then, Eugenia has been receiving a lot of attention online, which has unfortunately often been negative. She became known for her emo style of clothing, and bold, multi-colored make-up. On her YouTube channel, Eugenia mostly uploads vlog and lifestyle videos, along with clothing try-ons and cosplay tutorials. She’s also collaborated with other content creators, such as Social Response and Shane Dawson.

As of December 2021, Eugenia’s YouTube channel numbers more than 2.1 million subscribers, and over 260 million views. Her most popular video is “My Mom turns Me PREPPY”, which has been watched more than 23 million times, while some of her other popular videos include “MY FAVORITE SUMMER TOPS”, “I’m Back” and “Kingdom Hearts Kairi Cosplay Transformation and Makeup Tutorial”.

Eugenia launched her Twitch channel in 2014, but only started doing livestreams regularly in 2018; she’s still very active on the platforms, streaming at least two times per week for several hours. She mostly uses her streams to chat with her fans, and sometimes plays video games, such as “Pokémon Sword and Shield”, “Animal Crossing: New Horizons” and “Genshin Impact”. Eugenia’s channel is followed by more than 100,000 people, while her streams have amassed more than 1.6 million views.

Eating disorder concerns

Through her online career, Eugenia has been faced with a lot of concern and criticism over her visibly thin figure.

Many of her viewers have speculated that she may be suffering from an eating disorder, particularly anorexia nervosa, and some of her critics have been advocating for her removal from YouTube, as her content can allegedly incite unhealthy eating habits in young and impressionable viewers. However, Eugenia is reportedly a popular figure in the online ‘pro-ana’ communities, on which her photos and videos are used as inspiration for severe weight loss.

In 2015, Eugenia’s fans noticed that she had lost even more weight, and that she seemed disoriented in some of her videos. This raised many concerns for her health, and an anonymous user started an online petition on Change.org, calling for her to be temporarily banned from YouTube. It reached more than 18,000 signatures before it was removed from the website for violating community guidelines.

In response to the situation, Eugenia said that she isn’t suffering from an eating disorder, and that she has no intention of addressing it again.

In 2019, Eugenia became noticeably less active on all her social media profiles, before completely disappearing from the Internet for more than five months. This sparked rumors about her possibly being sick or even dead, but Eugenia later took to Twitter to clarify that she was taking a break from social media, to focus on her mental and physical health.

In July the same year, she produced several videos in collaboration with the YouTuber Shane Dawson, in which she opened up about being in a rehabilitation facility for her eating disorder.

She could be seen being at a noticeably healthier weight, and the video series amassed tens of millions of views on YouTube, with many of Shane’s and Eugenia’s fans praising her recovery. As a result, she was nominated for the 2020 Shorty Award in the YouTuber of the Year category, and she returned to regularly uploading videos.

However, later in 2020, she reportedly started struggling with her weight again, appearing to be underweight in her videos. In February 2021, mental health advocate Lily Rose Mills started a petition to remove, or at least age-restrict Eugenia’s YouTube channel and other social media profiles, arguing that she promotes eating disorders. Although the petition has been signed over 50,000 times, neither Eugenia, nor YouTube representatives have commented on it.

In the past, social media networks have made effort to remove harmful content which openly promotes unhealthy eating habits, by deleting posts which contain key words such as ‘proana’ and ‘thinspiration’, but since Eugenia never openly talks about her weight, some argue that the removal of her content based on her looks alone could be seen as discriminatory.

Does Eugenia have a boyfriend?

Eugenia is a reserved person when it comes to talking about her private life, thus not a lot is known about her relationships. In the past, she has made several videos mentioning ‘a boyfriend’, all of which have turned out to be a joke. In her recent video entitled “Meet My Boyfriend”, she jokingly introduced Jack Skellington from “A Nightmare Before Christmas” as her romantic partner.

On the other hand, Eugenia hasn’t been spotted spending time with a potential partner, and even once mentioned that she has never been in a relationship. Due to this, some of her fans have been speculating that she might be asexual or aromantic, but she is yet to comment on these rumors.

Eugenia currently appears to be single, hasn’t been married or engaged, and doesn’t have children.

Age, height and net worth

Eugenia is 27 years old. She has long black hair and blue eyes, she’s 5ft 7ins (1.7m) tall, and weighs around 86lbs (39kgs).

As of December 2021, her net worth is estimated at close to $500,000.
