Drew Nieporent Net Worth $50 Million

Raised in New York, Nieporent matricuated from Stuyvesant High School in 1973, and later on attended Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, graduating with a degree from the School of Hotel Management in 1977.

Nieporent’s career started while he was still in college, working on Vistafjord and Sagafjord, two prominent cruise ships. In 1978, he then started his career managing restaurants with Warner Le Roy, initially two in New York – the Maxwell’s Plum and Tavern on the Green. He also became involved in the management of Le Perigord, La Grenouille and Plaza Athenee’s Le Regence. His early years in the restaurant industry helped establish his career, and also his net worth.

In 1985, from being a manager Nieporent moved to being an owner, and opened his first restaurant – Montrachet – the restaurant earned a positive response from diners and received three stars from the New York Times. Montrachet kept the three-star rating for 21 years, and maintained it even after reopening and changing its name to Corton. The new restaurant even earned two Michelin stars thanks to his chef and partner Paul Liebrandt. The success of Corton set the tone for all of Nieporent’s restaurants, which tremendously increased his wealth.

After Corton, Nieporent once again ventured to open a new restaurant in New York, and this time in partnership with some of Hollywood’s most prominent people. In 1990, he opened Tribeca Grill together with Robert De Niro, Bill Murray, Mikhail Baryshnikov and Sean Penn.

In 1994, Nieporent teamed up once again with actor Robert De Niro, and Opened Nobu in New York City with sushi master Nobu Matsuhisa as its head chef. That same year, he also opened another restaurant called Rubicon with Robin Williams, Francis Ford Coppola and once again with De Niro. It was also his first restaurant out of New York, opening in San Francisco.

Nieporent achieved another feat in 2005 when he opened his first wine shop – Crush Wine & Spirits – which was immediately recognized by Food and Wine Magazine as the best new wine shop.

Today, Nieporent’s restaurants still thrive all over the world. His restaurant Nobu now has several branches all over the world, and Nobu New York was even awarded the Best Restaurant in America by The James Beard Foundation. His restaurants Rubicon, Montrachet, and Tribeca Grill also earned the Grand Awards from Wine Spectator Magazine for its outstanding wine service. The success of his restaurants ultimately put him among the top names in the food industry, and also increased his net worth.

Aside from his restaurants, Nieporent also serves various charities including Citymeals-on-wheels, DIFFA, and Madison Square Garden’s Garden of Dreams Foundation to name a few.

Nieporent also gained mainstream fame when he appeared in the documentaries “Eat this New York” and “A Matter of Taste.”

In his personal life, Drew married Ann in 1986, and they have a son and a daughter, and reside in Ringwood in New Jersey. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Drew now has weight problems, and was diagnosed with coronary disease partly because of his obesity.
