Frances Rose Shore was born on 29th February 1916, in Winchester, Tennessee USA, and was a singer, actress and television personality, who was particularly popular in the 1940s and 1950s, but who was also a TV personality for two more decades. As a golf player, she was a strong supporter of professional women’s golf development in the US, including establishing the Colgate Dinah Shore tournament, one of the five major tournaments of the LPGA Championship. Dinah passed away in 1994.

She was sponsored by Chevrolet for which she also made commercials. In the 1970s, she came back to the screen with an afternoon talk show, meantime continuing to also work as a singer and actress until the late 1980s.

In addition, Dinah Shore, who also played golf, was a long time sponsor of professional women’s golf. In 1972, she was co-founder of the Colgate Dinah Shore Golf Tournament, which is now under the name Kraft Nabisco Championship, and is one of the four major golf tournaments for women on the LPGA Tour. The tournament is held every spring near Shores House in Rancho Mirage, California. Shore was also the first female member of the famous Hillcrest Country Club in Los Angeles. In recognition of her support for golf, Dinah Shore was posthumously inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. In 1985, she had already received the Pattyberg Award and 1993 the Old Tom Morris Award, the highest award of the Golf-course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

Finally, in the personal life of Dinah Shore, she was married to the western star George Montgomery in 1943, until their 1963 divorce – they had two children; she was then briefly married to Maurice F. Smith from 1963 to 1964. In the 1970s, she was in relationship with the actor Burt Reynolds. Dinah Shore died in and died on 24th February 1994 in Los Angeles, California, US 1994 at the age of 77 years as a result of ovarian cancer. Her funeral took place at the Hillside Memorial Park Cemetery in Culver City, California.
